when we get decent shooting from the outside we are such a tougher team.

IF .... Morningstar and Reed can hit from outside when the game is on the line then we can go along way. Big If.

Is it too early for fans to start speculating when KU could overtake UK for #1 on the most wins list? If Bill keeps cranking, it should happen in the next 2 or 3 years, especially if there are deep runs in the tourney. Add in the ever present possibility of Cal screwing up and having a season vacated, and we might really have something here.

We are down 14 to UK (2039 - 2025). We've gained 6 wins on them this year so far (22 wins to 16). We're ahead of UNC by 5 at the moment. UK has 2 more tough road games (at Vandy and at Tennessee). Kenpom has them losing only one more. KU meanwhile has only one game left that I think (and Pomeroy too for that matter) could be a loss and that is at Mizzou. So if we lose 1 and they lose 2 that gains us one more on them. Conference tourneys are a crap shoot, so let's just say both teams win that. I think UK is no better than a Sweet 16 with the way they are playing at the moment. That's 2 wins. KU is looking more and more like a Final 4 team. That's at least 4 wins. So let's say that gains us another 2. Basically we could be down 10 or 11 at the end of the season, having made up 9 or 10.

How much closer we get next year of course depends on a lot of things. UK I would think should be no worse than what they are right now with their revolving door recruiting classes. KU on the other hand could see a 2006 like drop off if we lose the twins, T-Rob, Selby, and then Tyrel and Brady.

Very very good post here. Very good. I've done my fair share of barking against the 2 white kids in the past. Now, I don't think we can win without them, particularly Reed. And I'm particularly excited Morningstar remembered how to play ball. I am really starting to value (probably overvalue) having smart players.

I agree wholeheartedly. But the homer that I have managed to suppress deep in my soul pokes it's head out now and then and reminds me that in 2009-10 KU lost all 5 starters and returned 1 guy with significant minutes.

Out of all my thoughts, the truth is somewhere in the middle. We can win without Reed and Morningstar, but they do contribute a lot. But you probably have to have some kids like Taylor, EJ, and Robinson that are supremely talented. And we probably won't fall on our faces next year, but it is unlikely we will experience the success of 09-10.

We're KU. We'll be fine no matter what. Our down years are good years to most teams, especially to teams like MU and KSU.

I read somewhere that there's a good chance the twins come back next year btw.
