I'll be very happy with just average for the time being.

This move basically says they aren't comfortable with the rookies playing CB right now, and that's fine.
Russell didn't sign until June and missed valuable practice installments, so this is why he isn't playing much IMO. White is the best looking rookie DB, but it would be foolish to rely on him that much. Peters is Peters. Gaines will be a full go next week after the staff was careful with him, Nelson has looked good in camp and decent overall and we stole an experienced CB to fill the 4th spot and provide insurance in case something happens with the first 3). I still can't believe that we got a league average CB for a 2018 7th rd pick.

Exactly why Alex Smith wouldn't have thrown the ball. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Not that late anyway.
Smith throws on time or not at all. The play that idiots like Carpenter ragged on him about when he rolled and found Maclin when he had a 'wide open' Wilson is a perfect example. Throwing that ball to Wilson would've been insanely stupid. Passing late and over the middle is pretty much the one thing a QB should never EVER do (doubly so when it's late, over the middle, and across your body). Bray probably tries it and unless he suddenly became Aaron Rodgers, it probably gets picked. If Smith sees him even with the DB in single coverage, he probably lets it fly as soon as Hill gets to the DBs hip but there's no way the throws that ball when Hill's already 40 yards downfield running a fly route. It was just a remarkably stupid decision.

I didn't recall that it was 3rd down. 3rd and 20 no less. So if the ball is intercepted, it's really no worse than a punt. And it would've been a pretty damn nice net punt at that. It's essentially the "Eli Manning Doctrine". If you watch the Giants much, you'll see several third and longs where Manning sees that they're probably boned so he'll just chuck that sumbitch as far as he can to see if they get lucky or get bailed out. Worst case scenario is roughly the same starting field position they'd have had anyway. Looks like that may have been what Foles was doing there. He realized that the play started off bad (it was a bobbled snap, wasn't it?) so the timing routes were all ****ed up. So why not launch it out there and see what happens? Afterall, the alternative is punting on 4th and 20. So my bad, Nick. I'm still not convinced that you wouldn't have made that same play on 1st down, but on 3rd and 20, it's defensible and perhaps even extremely clever.

Aman if they can get competent play from these young corners, when houston comes back the defense could be really good. Hopefully for a few years

His numbers are pretty impressive and he's got the length that Dorsey desires in his CB's. Unfortunately, I won't see the game until at the earliest, 1pm PST on Saturday. |
