What is your stance on aliens?

I am curious to see where everyone stands on this. Asking about a stance on UFOs could be a different topic with different options so feel to give your thoughts on that as well.

Of course, whether or not any of these other life forms have managed to travel to earth is an entirely different proposition altogether. I see no reason to think that they wouldn't. But if they do, it's pretty unlikely that they'd choose to hide in shadows, kidnap an earthling every now and then for some anal probing, and reveal themselves only to a select few.

That's why I mock and ridicule anyone who insists that a few unexplained lights in the sky are definitive proof that aliens have arrived. Any reasonable person would require a helluva lot more proof than that. Show me a living alien and I'll be on board. Show me a dead alien or a space ship, and I'll be on board. But don't point to some lights in the sky that move in a way you don't understand and claim it's proof of aliens. It isn't.

By the way, this rant isn't directed at Hamas. It's directed at guys who are impressed by light shows and the utterances of government officials. We have a couple of those in this thread.
Go **** yourself, dipshit.

They don't exist. Everybody on this planet has a cellphone with cam now, still no evidence showed up yet.

And there's logical fallacies all over the place. The biggest argument to the contrary is generally that the distances required to travel are impossible. Of course everyone arguing the point conveniently leaves out the caveat "at our current level of understanding". A hundred years from now, a thousand years from now, two months from now, who knows, our own understanding of what's possible and what's not may change completely. We act like we're at the pinnacle of science, that we know enough to make hard and fast statements, when the reality is that our understanding is not even in its infancy yet. We're still fetal.

Which doesn't mean that anything other than us has ever been here. Just that we're unbelievably arrogant to believe so, simply because we can't traverse the distance.

Of course we're in God's image. Of course extraterrestrial life would be just like us. That's what we're trained to believe, at least in the west. Humans are special. The center of everything. Whereas I think it's possible if not likely that life exists in a myriad of forms, forms we might not even recognize as even being life. As we know it.
These are great posts and the kind of shit that I like to think about. The possibilities are endless.

We had a thread similar to this one a while back. I wish I could find it but don't even know where to look. Someone made a comment about how (I'm super duper paraphrasing here) current humans expecting to hear radio signals from ETs in space is akin to an ancient aboriginee pounding on a war drum expecting a response while radio waves are passing through his body, unbeknownst to him.

****, whoever said that put it so much more eloquently than I ever could but you catch my drift.

As you intended. Your attitude is that you know what us silly peons don't. Fact is you don't know either so don't come off as everyone with a opinion other than yours is wrong.
I have never seen anything unusual in the skies but doesn't mean others have not. I think most people can see something that is unusual and sort it out as natural or something unidentifiable. I to always wonder why they hide and never just show themselves. Maybe they are robotic machines designed to do what they were sent to do and just do it taking no notice what us inhabitants are up to.

I believe the last Star Trek movie addressed this.

You guys still don't understand...

As far as I can remember, neither Fish nor Brainiac claimed aliens don't exist and/or haven't visited this planet. What they're saying is that some strange lights in the sky are far from irrefutable evidence that ETs are visiting us. The term UFO, by it's own definition, can't be used as "evidence" of extraterrestrial life. They're ****ing UNIDENTIFIED. That's what the U in UFO stands for..

Scott's appeal to authority also means little. Some guy with an illustrious military title saying basically the same shit any other random person that saw some strange, inexplicable shit doesn't make it any more true.

It would really be freaky if they only showed up on cameras.

Here is a perfect example of how something can have a perfectly mundane explanation, yet eyewitnesses will SWEAR they saw something supernatural.

If an eyewitness fled from the coffee shop before learning it was all a prank, you'd have a true believer who would tell people that he believes in telekinetic powers or witchcraft or whatever he interpreted this as, BECAUSE HE SAW IT WITH HIS OWN EYES.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlOxlSOr3_M

This video is hilarious, but it's also reason #643 why eyewitness testimony is extremely unreliable. If that's all you've got, you've got nothing.
