2014-2015 NHL Offseason/Regular Season Thread

Free Agency starts today. I'm probably the worst candidate to keep up an OP with player movement and the like, but figured it would be cool to have a repository for all things NHL leading up to next season.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anaheim acquires Kesler from Canucks for Bonino, Sbisa, and picks.

-Dallas acquires Spezza from Montreal for Chiasson, others, and a 2nd round pick.
-Avs acquire Briere for Parenteau and a late pick.
-Predators acquire James Neal for Spaling and Hornqvist.
-Marian Gaborik re-signs with Kings.
-Ryan Miller to Canucks via UFA.
-Paul Stastny to the Blues via UFA.
-Jarome Iginla to the Avs via UFA.
-Dan Boyle to the NYR.
-Brad Richards to the Blackhawks.
-Vanek to the Minnesota Wild.
-Robidas to the Maple Leafs.
-Niskanen to the Caps via UFA.

Feel free to add other moves and I'll do my best to update.

Let's go Pens! Hope we can take the series lead tonight.

Hiring McLellan would be like hiring Marty Schottenheimer.
Hiring Muller would be like hiring Romeo Crennel.

Romeo was a great coordinator that failed in a mediocre environment. He'd done nothing to establish he was a good coach, just that he was a good coordinator who has an excuse as to why he had previously failed as a HC.

That's the best argument Muller has for himself right now - he at least has an excuse for his suck. I'm not completely convinced that I buy it seeing as how Carolina had a fairly recent string of success, but I guess I'll give him that much. The problem is that he can't really point to any developmental successes either. Maybe Skinner but it's not like Skinner ever developed an overall game; he just gave up on defense to score. Worse still, Cam Ward went from a Vezina contender to a complete headcase under Muller. There are plenty of red flags from Carolina, IMO.

To me hiring McLellan is like hiring Carroll. More accurately, it's like hiring Joel Quenneville; the last guy that got saddled with 'couldn't win the big one' in STL.

Beyond that, the NHL has more Crennel's than it has Schottenheimer's. There are a slew of shitty coaches in the NHL and I'm just not interested in getting another one. I don't need another Davis Payne in here getting outclassed.

If you're looking at nothing but their track records, the only thing that Muller can do is say that there's no reason he couldn't succeed in the right situation...though he's never actually done it. McLellan, OTOH, has had great success in San Jose his entire career there; his worst season is better than Muller's best and let's not act like San Jose was some hockey hotbed. He's a quality coach.

I hope Anaheim gets the 3-0 lead tonight & if the Pens grab the 2-1 lead from the Rangers, it might be Talbot time.

I was thinking about this the other day.

Obviously, the Blues have never won the Cup, but the Top 4 coaches in wins all time have either spent time here, or are currently here.

Arbour, Bowman, Q, Hitch.

That's pretty ****ing ridiculous, and gives outsiders a glimpse of the curse this organization is under.

McLellan, while I think a good coach, ****ed up in not winning a cup in SJ. Comparing him Q is apt. But I'd rather have a coach who has won the Cup before(my ideal coach for the Blues is Hitch, assuming they can kill the ****ing gorilla in the room) or one who either built a team from scratch(Trotz) or little experience as HC (Mueller).

Other coaches who'd I have no problem with coaching the Blues would be Laviolette(great coach, but he's in Nashville), AV, Tippett(Could actually be realistic if Hitch gets the boot or retires. Previously hired by Armstrong in Dallas).

What a ****ing gutless performance. This team can't get up for a first round game against a ****ing wild card team, forget the ****ing Cup.

Just end this ****ing abortion and blow it the **** up. They obviously have no interest in listening to Hitch or doing what's necessary to do what it takes to win in the playoffs.
