Why Geno Smith fell in the draft
I've seen a couple other posts about this... but this probably deserves it's own thread considering how many hours we've wasted arguing about the guy. This is the first article I've seen theorizing why Geno fell in the draft. Time will tell whether it's accurate.

Yeah, Jones came to mind as well. I think he probably takes over for Ben in a year or two and that's a situation where he can succeed.

The Chiefs picked up three new QBs this off-season (more, if you count guys like Dane Crist, which I don't). It's not like they stood pat.

Yay! They picked up 2 guys that were UDFA's coming out and paid a 1st for a 29 year old QB that lost his job. The only thing they invested heavily in is a known turd.

If only we could have had a guy with poor footwork, slow eyes, anti-social behavior and an inability to lead instead.

It still falls back on the player to make the most out of his path. Elite players will find ways to win regardless of the situation. Do I expect Geno Smith to play at an Elite level regardless of the team he was drafted on? Yes. Even though his team, coaches, and front office might be in transition from teh suck... it's his job along with the rest of his teammates to get to work and win. Can we say Geno would have an easier path if he would've went to another franchise? Sure, but life isn't fair and he is still going to get a chance to prove himself. Good QB's elevate the players around them. I expect Geno to form a chemistry with a WR or two on the current Jets roster, and I expect them to break out into stars. The same thing Tom Brady does with every WR on his roster. The same thing Peyton Manning has done for his WR's. |

Like anyone that is a chiefs fan, wouldnt give their LEFT NUT for Colin Kaepernick. And second, he didnt lose his job, he got hurt, and his head coaches first born son took over, and ran with the job. Its not really that big of a deal. No bigger of a deal than when Brett Favre was replaced by aaron rodgers, who was ted thompsons baby, or when Tom Brady, replaced bledsoe, who was bill bellichicks baby.

If Geno isn't your flavor than there of a half dozen other guys they could have had in later rounds. Hell they could have had comparable players to Smiff for 6th round picks and kept their 2nd. I REALLY don't think people realize what Alex is and how far away this team actually is. I think 5-6 wins is probably it.

25-27 with 4 tds, no ints over his last 5 quarters of football. So he wasnt playing piss poor, and was replaced because he sucked. He was replaced because Kaep is just that good, farrrrrr better than alex smith will ever hope to be. Lost is a very strong word to use for the alex smith situation.

It's the QB's job to develop a relationship with his receivers, throw them the ball, and give them a chance to show the world that they can do what it takes. It's easy to say a WR sucks... but in truth that WR may be a talented mofo that just couldn't build any chemistry with his QB. (Jon Baldwin I hope?) I Expect Geno Smith to be a leader, develop chemistry with his WR's, and make his surrounding cast stars.... the same thing he did with Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey at WV. He fed them the ball with great accuracy. If Geno Smith sucked and was launching balls like Matt Cassel, nobody would know who the hell Bailey and Austin are. |
