Nolan's Batman 3 Title
Batman sequel 'Rises' again
LOS ANGELES - THE next Batman sequel has a title: The Dark Knight Rises. Distributor Warner Bros. confirmed the name for director Christopher Nolan's third adventure about the DC Comics vigilante hero, which follows Batman Begins in 2005 and The Dark Knight in 2008. The Dark Knight Rises is due in theaters July 20, 2012. Bucking Hollywood's current wave of 3-D movies, Nolan is not planning to shoot the film in 3-D. Warner Bros had agreed with Nolan's argument that the sequel should resist the 3-D craze, the director told the Los Angeles Times' Hero Complex blog, which first reported the title. Nolan would not reveal what villain might appear in The Dark Knight Rises, but he said it would not be the Riddler, one of the key bad guys in the comics and past film and TV Batman tales. Earlier this year, Nolan said he would not resurrect the Joker, the cackling villain played by Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. Ledger won the supporting-actor Academy Award for the role, a year after he died of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. -- AP |

I guess I'll be seeing Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol in IMAX.
Why, you ask? Because there will be a 6-minute preview for The Dark Knight Rises before the show. They did this with TDK (don't remember the movie it was in front of) and it was awesome, basically showed the entire prologue with the Joker taking down the bank. So this sounds like the same kind of thing. Sign me up! |

I would not have wanted to see that sequence before the the rest of the movie and I won't be seeing this. I want to see MI but I will skip the IMAX. Have fun, though. |

I never saw I am Legend, though. I wonder if I went to a screening of just the trailer. |

As awesome as Batman Begins and The Dark Knight were, I think this 3rd installment will be slightly disappointing due to the crazy amount of hype and coverage its getting. It will just be really hard to match what Heath Ledger brought to TDK. I'm sure it will still be good and everything. Just not as good.

I can't wait to see TDKR, but I'm not expecting it to be as good as TDK. I'd be stoked if they had saved Two-Face or Joker for it, but ya know... |

I thought that was the best version of Scarecrow I've seen yet. Bane? Catwoman? Meh. Would rather have seen Scarecrow & Two-Face.

And I would have loved to see Two-Face drawn out through at least the beginning of this 3rd movie. Probably my favorite bad guy in any comic book series. Agreed that they could probably do better than Bane & Catwoman, but that's what I said when I heard Ras & Scarecrow were going to be in the 1st one and Nolan knocked it out of the park. Guess I trust him to do the same here. But like many of you, I have that sneaking suspicion that a majority of people will see it because of Ledger & wind up disappointed. |
