Really? I've laid out the case on almost every thread I'm in. I literally laid out the case a few posts above. Of the 7,000 or so police killings over a 7-year span, only 54 have resulted in criminal charges with 11 leading to convictions. You really are going to marginalize my comment to a stadium rumble? There are thousands of cases of police killings and police brutality every year.

It's pretty simple and many have said it already... I have a tremendous respect for the majority of officers who are good. But there are bad officers out there and they are getting away with being bad, and often times they are overprotected by the system and especially the union. It takes an act of congress to fire an incompetent officer and worse, we have rubber rooms that suspend officers with pay for even the most obvious of violations. Police have too much influence over many of these investigations including ability to protect and withhold data, and in many cases the system is so inefficient that half of these cases aren't even dealt with. That's not even getting into what I believe is unions way too zealously pushing back against the state and police departments whenever reform is suggested. Even and especially for tremendously broken systems like in Baltimore.

Again, I advocate leniency given the pressures of the profession and believe that the majority would result in justifiable homicide. But the #'s don't add up. You keep poo pooing the "hold bad officers accountable" point. But the case is really strong that that isn't happening in many instances. Is that too much to ask for for private citizens to have fair, just decisions on these matters considering it's literally life and death?

I told you "cops" (as a whole) were awesome. And the IA process works. But you just don't want to hear it.

And nobody is poo-pooing your point, we're just telling you, or I am at least, that the problem you speak of is so small it doesn't deserve this level of discussion that's leading to division.

Terrible people are going to get shot when they do terrible things, especially when they do it in areas that are pretty terrible.

Remember the guy that got shot in the back a year or two ago and the cop then dropped his taser next to him so he could claim the guy took it from him and then his fellow cops helped to cover it up until a video came out proving it was bullshit? What terrible thing did that guy do to get shot in the back?

I realize that all bureaucracies and systems of justice have imperfections, but are you seriously proposing that unless one becomes an activist at every level of law enforcement review, they aren't entitled to complain when people protest at every brunch, intersection, rush hour and entertainment venue on earth? That it's not fair to complain about someone showing their ass on my television, unless I sit in and take minutes on every personnel review board?

I told you, if you have concrete examples of egregious conduct, present your case for us to discuss. But your position is, if I want to complain about people who put their ass in my face, I have to go out and research everyone's ass on my own to give a comprehensive 'fair' view.

Bullshit.

Bingo, don't want to get shot? First step is to not commit a crime using a firearm.

(CNN)-Not guilty, pleaded former North Charleston, South Carolina, police officer Michael Slager, hours after a grand jury indicted him Wednesday on federal charges in last year's shooting death of Walter Scott.

Clean-shaven and wearing a gray suit and blue tie, Slager spoke only when addressed during the brief hearing, mostly saying, "Yes, your honor" and "Yes, sir," to U.S. Magistrate Judge Bristow Marchant.

The federal grand jury's indictment charged Slager with deprivation of rights under the color of the law, use of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and obstruction of justice.

The deprivation of rights charge is a death penalty offense, but the federal prosecutor's office has no interest in pursuing it, Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Klumb said.

However, the death penalty designation allowed Slager to declare indigence, making him eligible for a court-appointed attorney. Those attorneys will be Andy Savage and Shaun Kent. Savage has already been representing Slager.

Slager, who is white, already faces a state murder charge after being caught on video shooting Scott, a 50-year-old African-American father of four, in the back following a traffic stop.

Criminals get away with crime all the time - sometimes you just need that cellphone video, the hidden nanny cam, the informant, the eye witness, the DNA evidence, the credit card receipts, the store camera footage, the tire tracks, the fingerprints, the confession, etc etc etc to get the conviction...

There may only be a few bad apples, but the 99% are covering for them. I understand why that happens but until that culture changes nothing is going to be improved.

When the video shows that the police report is a lie, all of the cops that covered also need to face serious consequences.
