I know nothing of Rian Johnson. What are you anticipating from him as a director for VIII? |

He also directed a few episodes of Breaking Bad, and maybe the most awesome episode called Ozymandias. It's highly regarded as the best episode in the entire series and some people say it's the finest hour of TV, ever. As for my expectations? Since he's writing it, I'd expect it to be original, dark, twisted and taught. I doubt there will be much humor in it and I'd expect to have more of an emotional attachment to the characters and events, something I didn't have, at all, with TFA. He's also written the treatment for IX, so I have high hopes, certainly much higher than if it was Abrams/Kasdan again. My biggest question will be the score. Johnson has used his brother quite frequently and his scores aren't in line with a traditional orchestral score. And on that note, as I've mentioned a few times, the score was nearly absent for me in TFA. I *think* that had it been stronger, I'd have had more of a connection with the characters but without it, the movie fell flat for me. Certainly, there was no Vader's Theme, Emperor's theme or Dual of the Fates but even worse was there was nothing memorable for any character. |

I stand corrected. Here is Clay's facebook post on how he felt about the movie...

That final celebration at the end of RotJ is now just a fleeting moment before all the main characters end up miserable. Luke fails, and his nephew either slaughters all the young jedi in training or possibly abducted them all to be trained under Snoke. Han and Leia's son ends up tearing them apart, and the Empire never never really got defeated even if they go by some other name. All the original heroes it turns out had really shitty lives. That's your reward for trying to do good?

Really excited for the DVD behind-the-scenes clips of Oscar Isaac beating the **** out of the droids.

The main editor for his company just posted a review stating that Abrams was "brilliant" for copying Star Wars: A New Hope perfectly for a new generation.
IMO, "brilliance" has nothing to do with an outright copy. On a side note, I was talking to my dad today about The Revenant. He said it sounded like a remake of The Man In The Wilderness, which was made in 1971. I Google it and sure enough, it's a remake, although it's not touted as a remake. What a load of crap. |
