He was alive and went crazy on some remote planet. His brother found him and took him to Force healers.

It got a little goofy for my taste but they healed his mind and created mechanical legs so that he could walk again, which was kind of a precursor to Vader.

His last scene (IIRC) was a lightsaber battle with Darth Sidious that he lost but wasn't officially killed.

He did. Yet he survived. Clone Wars fixed a lot of things the prequels ****ed up.

One of my favorite scenes from TCW...

I just went to see it in IMAX. I loved it. Did the nostalgia pull me in and probably create a bias with my opinion? Absolutely, but I'm ok with that. I had a smile on my face for much of the movie, and that reaction is good enough for me.

I'm not hardcore Star Wars anymore, but I grew up with the vehicle models hanging from my ceiling, the SW comforter on my bed and posters hanging from the walls. This really brought back fond memories from my childhood.

I'm taking my 3 kids tomorrow, and hopefully they'll be drawn to the new characters enough to be interested going forward.

if I had my Ren becomes a Palpatine like villain, and aims to kill every connection to his life as a Solo. Killing Leia , Rey, Finn, leaving Luke as a "failed" teacher/mentor but having to have the heart to kill his last blood relative to prevent the Empires tyranny again.

When the tickets went on sale online and the websites were down, I drove down to the box office and purchased the best seats that were available opening day, which just happened to be at 11:00pm on Thursday night. And this is during the holidays, with kids in and out of school and some construction happening at my house, in which the guys were arriving at 6:30 in the morning, firing up the saws-alls first thing.

Yet, I didn't care. It was Star Wars!

Maybe Rogue One will get me back on board but as of now, I'm just not excited about VIII & IX, although I like both directors infinity more than Abrams.

Also, Abrams is on the pub circuit saying that if Ren didn't kill Han Solo, his character wouldn't have had any "weight". IMO, Ren didn't need to kill his father to have "weight" in this film but he certainly didn't need to have his ass kicked by a former stormtrooper or a girl that focused on the Force, something she believed was a myth an hour earlier, that also kicked his ass, scared his face, chopped off his arm/hand and maybe blinded him.

That would have given him plenty of "weight". You know, not getting your ass kicked by a novice girl. But I digress...

I knew people were going to think he lost a hand there. It was just a piece of cloth. When they show the scar on his face (which conveniently missed his eye, but went down the bridge of his nose) you can see clearly both hands/arms still intact. I re-watched today with my sons, and paid really close attention to the fights. The fight between Ren and Fin was not even close, they had a total of 4 clashes that Ren was in control of the whole time, and as soon as Fin did anything remotely damaging to Ren, Ren ended the fight with ease. Ren was also in control of the fight with Rey, but like a true fault of the dark side he was over confident. He didn't want to kill Rey outright, he wanted to turn her. I will give you that she thought the force was a myth, but that doesn't mean she had never used it before. Anakin was using the force as a 9 year old during POD races, but he just didn't know it. She is obviously a very powerful force user, and when she realized she could tap into the power she surprised the injured and overconfident Ren, and won the fight. Also, I would like to mention that she was trained in martial combat, we see as much earlier in the film. At the end of the day a lightsaber is amazing, but it is just a really badass sword. So, even if she hadn't known how to use the force she might have been able to hold her own for a short period of time. The movie isn't perfect, it has its flaws, but I don't think that scene is one of them. Dane I am really not trying to change your mind on the movie as whole. I think you may have misread that scene, because it was towards the end, and you already had a negative view of the movie. (The hour and half of it anyway)

Sorry it disappointed you man, I felt the exact same way coming out of the Phantom Menace. I wanted nothing more then to love it, but I got Jar Jar'd. Plus Jake Lloyd... I swear you cut both of those characters from the film, and you have a pretty damn good Star Wars movie. You fail to tell the beginning of Anakin's story though, but there had to be a better way to do it.

I was reminded of that too when my nephew called Saturday morning all excited at the hope for borrowing my bluray set so he could see them. His mom had taken him that morning to see TFA and he loved it. So he wanted to see all of them because that movie spoke to him like the OT did for me when I was a wee lad.

It's all about perspective I guess, and I actually admire that he doesn't nitpick like I do. We become too cynical as we age I suppose. In the end as long as there are more drawn to the force, then the movie was a success...plot holes be damned!

Some shithead bastards did that to us too, a line waiting for the theater to open, and the shithead walks by yelling "Han Solo Dies". Someone should have broke the bastards nose for that.

Thanks for the info! That scene was very dark in terms of color and contrast in the theater in which I saw it and while I picked up on the facial scar, the hand/arm injury wasn't so clear but it appeared as if she cut it off (same with the eye).

I've been looking for some sort of confirmation on the internet and looked over at theforce.net forums but couldn't find it. It seems like some people saw what I saw and other didn't.

And wow, if people here thought I was overly critical of the film, then don't go over there. I only saw it once, at 11pm after a long day and found the flaws that I've talked about here. People there have seen it multiple times and have written outright dissertations on their dislikes and plot holes, many of which didn't occur to me in real time.

Me too, but I can't remember where it was either. I remember being jarred when I saw it, realizing that there hadn't been one before, and didn't notice any the rest of the way...

Did anybody else notice the Stormtrooper who said "We think they may be splitting up, they may be on levels 4 and 5 now sir"...

I heard it and smiled.
