Alex Smith just wins!

Props for the QB who always finds a way to win. Things weren't going our way in the first half but he didn't quit and found a way to lead us to victory.

No. His post specifically mentioned Smith being able to, "turn it up when needed to." I was questioning what makes him think that? I get your point.

This team has that 1995 Chiefs feel to. Keep pulling a few games out of their ass.

How many ****ing chances does this turd get? You ****ing asswipes wrote Foles off after one ****ing game. It wasn't a great game, but it was better than MANY games where Alex Smith has stunk it up.

"We'll see how he does the rest of the way." Well, of course we ****ing will because Andy Reid is a dumbass. ****, they make it hard to be a fan.

Yesterday the Chiefs 100% won in spite of Alex Smith... in fact they would have won going away if Alex Smith didn't badly overthrow Conley, Kelce or Hill who all had sure-fire TD's.

Maybe there was a medical reason for it... i.e. Alex Smith's equilibrium is still off from the head/ear injury he sustained against Indy, but yesterday was easily one of the worst games Alex Smith has played as a Chief.

He looked like he hadn't played in a year, not just for a couple of weeks.

Almost every bad throw/decision he made could be attributed to him just not being able to cope with the speed of the game. The throw to Conley instead of Kelce is one that I usually give him a pass for because Conley was the first read. But his conclusion on that read shouldn't have been 'open'. He just felt that swarm around him and wanted to get the ball out so he threw to his first option.

The throw to Kelce was one where he could've stepped and driven the ball but because he didn't really put his lower half into the throw, it sailed on him. That was mechanics because he was jittery. And the Conley throw was put in a fine spot...just way too early. Give Conley another half second and he settles right under it but again, Smith was just so rushed to get the ball out that he didn't take that beat to see where Conley would be and hit the right spot.

Remember Any Given Sunday when Cap comes back and they do that POV shot with everything just going a million miles an hour around him and him freaking out? It looked like that - Smith just seemed completely ill-equipped and thrown off by the speed of the game. It was really odd to see from a guy that's been in the league for a decade and hadn't generally shown that in the past.

Alex isn't having a great year. I agree. But with our defense my main concern with him is going to be is he able to keep his INTs down and not make big mistakes? Can he turn it up if the defense has a bad game? I think he will be able to do those things while being efficient which should give us a chance to beat anyone we face. Our coaches need to keep this in mind when coming up with a gameplan and I think they have been doing that.

We should be alright.
we'll be fine. Thank you, have a nice day.

All I heard during that Jags game was that Alex wouldn't have missed Hill in the endzone like Foles did. Are we so sure about that now?

It looked simpler than that to me: he badly underthrew Hill on the interception and then badly overthrew everything the rest of the game. Whether that's overcompensation or coincidence I don't know.

At some point, and probably more than once, we're going to need a full four quarter performance from him where his play keeps us in a game. Maybe that's Atlanta. It's certainly likely to be needed in January. In any case, thinking back not just over the first nine games this year (because i could argue he hasn't had a good, whole game in 2016...), how often has that happened in his entire tenure here? Can he do that for this team, when they inevitably need him to? Can he do it reliably?

We can talk about how little we need him to do, and let the defense win games, but that's not what he's here for. We didn't give up picks and then big dollars for the 2016 version of Trent Dilfer or Mark Rypien. I can guarantee Andy Reid is not trying to field a barely (or below) adequate offense. We eventually will need to see something out of Smith. Something like Joe Flacco's run in the 2012 postseason.

PAChiefsGuy-
You've hit on the exact thing I doubt with Alex Smith... his ability to "turn it up" when necessary.

That's not a proclivity he has show with consistency. He needs a very favorable situation to play at a high level, for the most part.

That's the one chink in the Chiefs armor.

KC's struggles against the run can likely be improved if Houston is back and 100 percent.

But the pass defense? Still awfully weak at CB outside of Peters, and he is more of a playmaking CB than a true shutdown type at this point in his career.

Comparing this D to Denver's (which was just as good/better in the front 7, and much better in the back end, especially at CB) just doesn't work.

It's a very good D, but I'm not convinced it's good enough to overcome the lack of consistency or performance on offense.

Smith played like dog shit yesterday. Missed some easy easy TD's. He knows it, everyone knows it. What he didn't do however, was make the critical mistake that cost his team that game - as Cam did. Game flipped with the pick 6 that Cam never should have thrown. He should have eaten that sack. Smith would have eaten that sack. No doubt though, terrible game for Smith, who looked good and sharp through most of the second half, but missed absolutely critical throws that would have put the game away.

It happens. Collect the win, on to Tampa Bay.

That Denver defense is coming for us, and I'm not sure either QB has it in them to beat them. Having said that, Foles sucked ass last week, Smith sucked ass this week.

We won both games, mostly because our defense is becoming legendarily good at taking the ball away.

I really, really, really hope that Smith didn't just regress five years back to being a skittish QB who feels the pressure more acutely than he should. Mostly because we need to have options at QB for the stretch.

But this game was BAD. period. Like, I want to troll clay really hard about Smith beating yet ANOTHER playoff QB on the road, but... it just rings hollow. That should have been a 20 point victory.

You can say one is playing a lot better than the other all you want, but statistically that doesnt hold water. Alex has some statistics that he is better this year than Peyton was last year, there are some where Peyton was better, and there are some that are about the same.

Sorry, but the idea that Alex is "a lot better" than Peyton was last year couldnt be more inaccurate.

Nick Foles didn't get this kind of special treatment after his mediocre game. After the first bad pass people were ready to run him out of town.

Over the past few years I've seen more support and excuses had for Alex Smith than any other under-performing athlete in Chiefs history.

The hypocrisy on these forums are maddening.
