To Amazon Prime or NOT to Amazon Prime

Sorry if Q, but I'm on the fence about doing the whole Amazon Prime thing. Seems like getting rid of Netflix all but pays for it, but wanted to ask the opinions of others in this Mecca of awesome knowledge called Chiefs Planet..

Is Amazon Prime really worth it over eBay when you buy, let's say, 5-7 items a month? I ask because I always do the "price+shipping" deal, so it seem like it's a wash at some level. That being said, "Prime" would ALWAYS mean two-day shipping, and that's something I hardly ever do on eBay, so it could be a deal that makes it worth it enough to buy 15-20 things a month. The whole "eliminating some of the instant gratification culture/concern" deal...

Oh, and I've heard that if you use an "edu" account it's free for six months (perhaps not a big deal over a lifetime!!), but is then like half the cost. Does anybody know if that's true? If so, and it' the son who has the "edu" account, how does "Dad" pull off that scam without having the kid able to buy pretty-much anything he's ever wanted?

Thanks in advance... Just looking for some opinions before I leap...

I've been looking over that Prime Pantry and I'm just not seeing any savings there. IS the only appeal to it that you don't have to drive to the grocery store?

Tomorrow is prime day: http://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node=11448061011

To celebrate amazon's birthday they are going to supposedly have more deals than black Friday.

They have a preview of some of the deals here http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix....cle&ID=2067573

I think of it as being an alternative to a warehouse store rather than the grocery store. Good way of getting some savings by buying in bulk, but not really geared toward small items.

I could also see it being useful for people who live in rural areas with expensive grocery stores, but not really those who have easy access in a city.

There's a service in Los Angeles now which will pickup any order from Costco and deliver it for $3.99.

The downside is that they use their card and if you're a Business Member like me, won't receive a check at the end of the year for a percentage of purchases made. But the upside is not having to go to Costco.

The location I frequent is in Burbank, which takes a minimum of 20 minutes to reach with a maximum around 30 minutes. Since I work from home, I'm often able to go during the week and avoid peak hours but the times I've needed to go on Saturday or Sunday, it can take as long as 15 minutes just to find a parking spot.

Pantry sucks, having to fill a a whole box.

S&S is great.

Figured I'd throw the invite out there...I have one spot open in my Prime account starting Saturday for a year - $20. You get the shipping and discount options only, not the video or music streaming. PM me if you want in.

I'm not sold on Pantry yet, but Deface is right, it's not really a replacement for a Hy-Vee or Kroger.

Well, looking at this Prime Day, I'm not seeing any deals yet that look even slightly appealing.

Yeah, they already have a lot of upcoming deals visible. Just not a single thing I would want to buy.

The only thing I can't stand about Amazon and their sales is the fact you are expected to sit at your computer all day monitoring their site, with the hope you are a faster clicker than everybody else.

Dude posted something earlier that listed a 40" LED TV for $115. I haven't shopped for a TV in 6 years but that sounds like a steal.
