It’s definitely hard to sustain that. I also hope it doesn’t drop, but if they hit on 50%, that’s pretty good. Now 50% of 8-10 picks does far more for the roster than 5-6 picks which is why I don’t like them throwing a lot of picks for any player who is not a QB.

Exactly. That's precisely why I don't understand the urgency some have to shed picks and take on huge salaries. Our depth has been CRITICAL to our success. Trading that depth (and future depth) for a large contract doesn't make much sense at all.

The cap side of it tells me I don't much care. I can make things work to retain one of our defensive stars, whether that is Jones or Sneed, if I want to this offseason on top of this trade. I don't care about 2026 because I know, as well, that I have all of 10 players on contract for that season as it stands.

So you're only extreme concern has to be 2025. If all I'm overly concerned with losing is a Center, a Guard, and a LB, I'm not all that concerned. If I'm being realistic, I'm probably cutting Thuney to retain Smith and Creed and then filling Thuney's spot. If Bolton plays another full season like he's been playing, the chances of us retaining the guy are almost zero anyhow. There are plenty of ways to massage this from a cap perspective.

I guess I just don't get the fear of making a splash move.

How many 1sts are you trading for him? How many other picks? How much are you then paying him?

Jones is not gonna get tagged and traded. Why is this option even being considered still?

It's just a thing everyone talks about and it's not out of the realm. That said, my personal belief and hope is that Chris is signed and I think that if there is a player tagged and traded it will be Sneed. Even then, I'm fine with letting Sneed walk to retain Chris, he's just more important and less easily replaced.

Just to be clear:

1) Chris will NOT be tagged and traded. Period.

2) NEITHER player is easily replaced.
