• Only 1 losing season since 2000.
• Reached the World Series 4 times since 2004 and won as many championships (two) the past eight seasons as it did from 1965 to 2005.
• Made the NLCS 9 times including the last 4 years 2011-2014
• Three million attendance? Take it to the bank.
• 65 post season wins since 2004. 22+ wins more than any other team.

It may be a bad signing, but it won't cripple them because they have gobs and gobs of money. That's the advantage of that market and the advantage Epstein has always had--he's never had to own his failures the way middle market teams have. They'll just keep buying SPs until they find one.

1-The money will even out when the Cards sign their new TV deal, which is coming up.

2-Epstein gets waaaaay too much credit for the Red Sox championships, most of that team was built before he got there. Most of his FA signings didn't really pan out.
3-Chicken & beer is awesome. I could go for some.

He trashed his office after he lost out on the bidding for Jose Contreras. They paid a mint for Dice K and he was piss awful. He should consider himself incredibly lucky that he fell ass over teakettle into David Ortiz as soon as he discovered PEDs, and he got Manny's PED years before real testing began.

He paid 100+ million for 8 WAR of Dice-K when WAR was basically half the price it is now.

I do think he does a decent job of scouting young offensive talent, but the rest is almost all hype.

Agreed. And who knows if Ortiz would've panned out had ye not been introduced to Manny Ramirez' dealer.

Cards may have exposed him, much like the Royals did at the end of last season. If he blows up in their face, then they're in big trouble. Their staff isn't good enough to pick up the slack, and Epstein admits the org has no pitching on the way.

They can just buy more pitching with their huge moneybags.

Neither are the Cubs; also, Cards deal expires in 2017, Cubs are locked in until 2020. Cards also have a much better stadium situation, they won't have to keep putting money into their stadium like the Cubs do with their dump.

As much as it pains 2012 me to say, Pujols is probably number four. He had 28 more WAR than Boyer and 21 more than Ozzie and was the best player on two title teams and three pennant winners.

Plus, he netted us Michael Wacha.
