Talking Draft Prospects

We've got perhaps the biggest, most consequential draft coming up for this franchise since 2008. The Chiefs have all seven of their picks, and will certainly be picking up an additional four in compensatory picks, one of which is assuredly a 3rd rounder.

As a result, it's important to familiarize ourselves with as much of this draft class as possible. I started a thread last offseason that discussed late rounders that was generally well liked and spurred tons of great conversation on all sorts of draft picks we normally wouldn't talk about, so I'm going to duplicate that idea this year, only discussing all talents, rather than just the mid- and lower-round ones.

The OP will be continually updated to show the talent I'm reviewing by position. Keep in mind as I list these players that I am generally listing their round projections, but it is not a strict big board, as I likely won't have a big board put together until May.

Spoiler!

I don't know how much PAC12 football you've watched this year, but Oregon has absolutely buzz sawed a lot of very good teams, primarily because of Mariota.

I'm not a huge fan and think he'll need a period of adjustment at the next level, but the kid is, without question, insanely talented and a hell of a football player.

Winston is too, but he's not very careful with the ball and truly has sociopathic tendencies. Personally, I think that Winston is supported by his team substantially more than Mariota is and FSU has had one of the most lackluster/uninspired seasons I've seen. I'm not so sure that guys in the NFL, veterans, are going to be willing to put up with Winston's over-the-top self-aggrandizing, sermonizing locker room schtick. Winston vociferousness and loquaciousness isn't a sign of "alpha male," it just means he's obnoxious.
What makes them better defenses? Stats? They had to play much tougher defenses man. You are talking about two very different conferences.

Not sure where you are coming from about Winston. Sociopath? Maybe but, the dude has carried that team at times. A lot of times in two years actually. The offense he runs is a lot more complicated. He is better at making reads and he is much more accurate. I guess we'll see. I think Oregon gets a beat down.

Florida State has a decent defense this year, but it is not as good as last year. Plus, if anything, 2014 has been a break out year for the PAC12 and a step back for the SEC. The ACC stayed about the same.

SEC and ACC are light years ahead of the PAC12 imo. I have no idea why you would think it's a break out year for the PAC 12.

Well for starters, 6 of the 12 teams were in the top 25 this year this is on par with 7/14 from the SEC. Furthermore, thusfar the Pac 12 is 4-0 in Bowl games this year, which compares favorably to the SEC who is currently 4-2. (I am counting Ole Miss as a loss since they are currently down 42-0.)

WR Jaelen Strong, Arizona State -- I get less impressed with Strong the more and more I watch him. He looks like a Dwayne Bowe clone coming out of LSU, actually, except without the elite body control and huge frame to shield off defenders. Strong has a ceiling as a very good #2 in the NFL -- he's not a guy you can count on to blow up a CB off the line of scrimmage. He will time well, but on the field he looks to have Jonathan Baldwin speed, in that he gets faster the longer he runs a straight line. He's got great after-the-catch ability, but I don't like many things he does prior to getting the ball. He's not a very good route-runner, and he's not going to be great at getting open quickly for your QB. Instead, he'll be a reliable weapon when defenses are focusing on your #1 CB. He's very long (measures 6'3" but looks damn near 6'5") with good size that doesn't really show as Bowe-like bulk (217 lbs). He's capable of pulling off the WOW play from time to time, but he is unexceptional on the snap-in, snap-out work where offenses will reliably need him. He has great ceiling because of his physical gifts, and could work especially well in a wide-open offense with an accurate QB who can take advantage of his long arms. At this point, I like him as a 2nd rounder.

So just saw a mock that has us taking Kendricks in the first round.

That's bad right?

Eric Kendricks is a ****ing boss in coverage but he will never provide that same support in the run game. This is exactly why I prefer Denzel Perryman. That guys is destined to be the next Ray Lewis which is exactly why I have no problem with us reaching for him in the first.
