Dude, if you ask this question just like a bench press...people will throw numbers out of their ass and make it up. Oh you know back in college or high school I ran this and that. Ran a 4.5. No you didn't. Our high school football team had 10 players who ended up playing division 1. Nobody ran under a 4.5. The guy that was the fastest on the team who would run a 4.51, and well, he played for the Browns. People really have no idea how fast 4.7 or even 4.8 actually is. I got a buddy who has acceleration camps. I would gladly take one of you guys there that claims you run a sub 4.6 and 19 times out of 20 your score will be much much higher than you say.

I'll tell you this right now...
if you are 225 lbs, strong as an ox, and run a 4.4...you'd get any offer you want to play football anywhere... our own Larry Johnson was not much of an athlete...I watched him swing a baseball bat and he looked like a damn moron. he was big, he was fast, and he was strong...that was the extent of it...and we have dozens of people on CP who are/were faster than him! yeah ****ing right |

I don't know. I went to school with Maurice Mitchell. He was the 2nd fastest HS athlete in the nation...and he barely ran a 4.4. So I doubt that many people run even close to a 4.5. Maybe 3 or 4 max.

Okay. I'm sure that all you insular white guys in the backwoods of Missouri, Kansas and Illinois are absolutely correct: There are maybe one or two guys each year that graduate high school that run 4.5 forty yard dashes and that all the guys that subsequently sign with Texas, Ohio State, USC, Oregon, Alabama, Florida, LSU and Alabama barely break 5.0's, regardless of their positions. |

Seriously, Jason: Maybe you don't follow high school football across the nation or watch the national signing day, etc. But for you or anyone else to patently claim that hundreds, if not thousands, of kids run TRUE 4.5 forties across the nation is ABSURD. I don't recall anyone in this thread claiming that they benched "400 and ran a 4.4" has Hootie so blatantly exaggerated (as usual). He's so full of shit that it's no longer funny, it's pathetic. And quite honestly, I have a new found respect for Doomy & Beach Tribe (two of my, for lack of a better term, adversaries in this forum) because they've obviously competed and their statements come from experience, not through a drunken, myopic, insular haze. Regardless of all the blather, there are guys that are freaks of nature out there that can run blazzingly fast and lift an ungodly amount of free weights at an early age. But that alone does not make one a gifted athlete capable of playing at a high level beyond high school. |

There are plenty of superior athletes that do not get offers to play college football. There was a kid at my school who ran a 4.59 and could lift the gym. My high school coach gave him the starting HB position without even seeing him play. After two games into the season after 5 fumbles and never breaking any shoestring tackles, he never played another down. An amazing athlete with no football skill will not be just "given" a scholarship to play football. That is just stupid. Larry Johnson was not just strong and fast, he had football awareness. Yes he sucked at the end of his career, but he was not just some track athlete with muscles, he was a football player.

HAHA!
Yes, yes I have. It generally does not end well. Chugging the last 1/2 of the 2nd 40 because you have to pee (and you're drinking whatever foul swill your opponent has selected for you) is just not good times.
