I'm not going to dive back into cs1950 stuff. Mike, hope your daughter does well, wherever she attends.
Let's talk about recruiting instead. This is a small class and it ranks low, but there are still several guys I'm excited about. Tre Williams - real jewel of the class, IMO. Consensus opinion is that he is more explosive and has more upside than Nate Howard, who played well as a true freshman. Think Williams is the next really big star DE after Harris. Demarea Crockett. I watch the guy's film and see a big, fast back who is best when he can make one cut and go. Actually reminds me a lot of Knile Davis coming out of Hs in that he doesn't have great vision or balance, but he's really fast and can be devastating when he builds a head of steam. Trystan Castillo. Think he's going to be a good, nasty interior lineman. Wish they'd been able I hang on to Royce Newman to pair with him. I'd feel pretty good about this OL class in that case. Demetrius Mason - under radar, but I like the speed/size/instincts at CB. Think he will significantly outplay his 2 -star rating. Marvin Terry - I think he's in qualification limbo right now, but if he makes it, I love his explosiveness and ability to play OLB effectively as a rush end or in space. That's nice flexibility to have and would let Mizzou switch up fronts without subbing, which Odom seems to want to do

It's a small class, but I do think there is still potential to get 3-4 impact guys out of it. Coming off of the large (and well-ranked) 2015 class, it won't kill them as long as they pick things back up for the 17 class.

Also the Bama WR transfer, but I'm guessing he's ineligible this year.

Because that dude almost certainly has the slowest feet I have ever seen. I guess simple mass will force guys to take an extra step to get around him, but I feel like those long arms and slow feet are just holding problems waiting to happen. I don't see any way he'll be able to get guys into his body to finish them. He'll be lunging as players fly by him (or simply getting flagged as he holds on for dear life). I know he was technically last year's recruit but he's part of this class, IIRC. If he can truly be a keystone LT for us, he'll be the most important recruit in the class. I was just stunned by how slow the guys feet seem to be. Mason was the guy that most were recruiting as a WR, right? The one that didn't play DB as a senior so he flew under the radar. If that's the same guy, I'm with you there - looks like he could be a real nice developmental candidate at CB. Probably a RS this year but it's good to see them putting some talent on that side of the ball if they shift him over.

With Black, the JUCO WR, and redshirts Justin Smith and Jon Johnson, there will be a lot of new faces in the mix at WR.
Can't hurt. I like the deep threat potential of Smith. Johnson and Black can hopefully make them more explosive in the slot and return games.

I don't have huge hopes for Howell, especially as a LT. I could see him playing RT and being effective (especially as a run blocker) My main hopes on the OL rest with guys not getting favored treatment "just because" and actually playing the best guys. You're correct about Mason. Very speedy (looks like a 4.4 kid on film), played at a great GA program, moved to D as a senior (or at least focused there for the first time). He's good in the open field, so he also might be someone you look at in the return game.

It seemed as though it was absolutely vital that the system have 3 quality WRs to function and when White was lost and our TE was never truly a pass catching threat, suddenly our ability to find space just evaporated. Sasser and especially Hunt looked much better when they had White out there with them drawing some attention. And obviously last season's WR corps never came together either. God...what an abortion of an offense we had last season. We have to go back to Daugherty/Farmer to even get close to that bad and frankly, last season was almost certainly worse. Getting Black in here, even if he doesn't set the world on fire, will be huge because he's simply one more credible Division I WR and given our complete inability to generate separation last year, that was much needed. Obviously the offense will be a different animal than what we've seen in the recent past, but getting an experienced pass catcher in here for Lock has to be seen as a huge plus.

I see it as a plus. I see black as the slot guy, smith perhaps playing the X and being the primary deep threat with his size/speed/leaping ability (this was what White brought to the table, IMO) and Johnson being used as the second slot guy or in the Z spot.

I also think it will be a plus to have a guy calling plays who has more short patterns in his offense than outs (slants, drags, hot routes)

They were disappointing, to be sure. But you really think they'll both lose their starting gigs to RSs?

Moore? Possibly. I was thinking a 4-WR set, with Brown as the 4th. But Heupel will probably use the TE more.
