What's hilarious is that a simple google search for "Matt Campbell Missouri" links you to football scoop articles in which sources are quoted as basically saying Campbell would take the Missouri job if offered, but you somehow think he had an actual offer on the table from Missouri and spurned it.

Rhoades tried to work his former relationship with Herman to make it happen and waited a while for a final "no" from him before moving on.

His initial list was:
Herman
Fuente
Odom

He interviewed a lot of guys to be thorough and to buy time on his No. 1 target's decision. The perceived vulnerability of Charlie Strong at Texas was a big factor in Herman staying put, as was Houston's booster group ponying up SEC-level cash to keep him.

Campbell was about Missouri's 5th/6th choice. He's a good coach and he'll do good things at Iowa State for a few years, which will lead to him taking a step up to a school with more natural advantages.

Be happy with that. But you're absolutely wrong about his relationship with Missouri.

I'm presuming he won't be playing for Mizzou ever.

I like Campbell, but he was never ahead of Odom and Odom was always a given to accept if offered. Knowing that, it's pretty apparent that Campbell was never an actual consideration.

A guy took a promotion and that makes him shady?

And by all accounts, he didn't elect not to keep Kuligowski. Kuligowski left of his own accord.

20 years at Mizzou and he never even made the DC post despite being arguably the best DL coach in the country - it's safe to say he'd hit his ceiling here and time to move on.

Sometimes people just make the decisions that are best for them and their family and there's little that can be done about it. That's pretty obviously the case with both of the decisions that you're trying to hang around Odom's neck here.
