Thanks. I wonder what Lucas' and Ardnt's ideas were, and how much varied from what I saw today.

Ren obviously has some of Solo's lesser qualities. Let's not act like Anakin wasn't a whiney Bitch at times, and his massacre incident to boot. At this point Ren is barely trained - not even close to a sith or darth lord. He doesn't even have a properly working saber. Forced to use one with a busted crystal. Clearly, he's not had any training since Luke. Snoke probably has no interest in helping him to master his powers because he knows Ren will eventually be the one to kill him. Only the disturbance and the force awakening forces his hand to resume training because now Snoke needs a more powerful ally.

Of course, if you didn't expect it to be a reboot it would feel like just a rehash. Every time they do a reboot of a Spiderman or Batman film, I know what the gist will generally be because its an origin story and that has an underlying storyline with some flexibility in some of the surrounding details.

This is a reboot where they decided not to attempt recasting the same characters because of their iconic status.

If 8 and 9 don't tread a new path, then I would agree with you that 7 is just a cheap remake, but as it stands for now I am enjoying the idea of this pseudo reboot as a means of establishing a new base with some resolution of the original principal cast.

Yes, the Deathstar planet is a tired unoriginal idea, but so was having to again destroy the 2nd Deathstar in the original trilogy.

This movie is just the foundation for an expanded Star Wars universe that is going to rapidly grow with a bunch of original stories through tons of different types of media.

The primary concern should be as to whether they have introduced new characters worth being interested in.

Rey - yep!
Fin - yep!
Ren - yep!
Maz - yep!
Poe - yep!
Snoke - yep!
Phasma - maybe?
BB8 - yep!
Hux - maybe?
I'm with you. I went in expecting a rehash of a New Hope & just wanted to have new characters that were interesting. It was everything I was expecting I I enjoyed it. I just hope the story gets more original in the next 2 films.

Bye bye to Jar Jar and boring stiff characters blathering about trade routes. I think JJ nailed the feel of the original series and it put a smile on my face.

Based on the comments I've read from Lucas, quite a bit different.

give it a b-... too many rehashed ideas and almost scene for scene with the xwings at the end.I'm glad this is JJ's only shot at star wars. There were some really wicked shots when they were jedi dueling in the forest. I fully expect a new path in episode 8.

Where the hell has Clay been? Is he banned again?

I'm dying to hear his fanboy take and see him and Dane go toe to toe on the movie.

He's going to have an epileptic fit when he sees that Dane didn't like it.

also, i have a hunch that the title of the movie coincides with Finn being in a coma and the force waking him up in epi 8. I thought he had a good character.. in fact.. Finn and Rey play very well off each other.

Also, I honestly believe that this movie would be overall better *even if scene for scene* if the music wasn't so damn horrid. Wiliams you're done man, that was a horrendous score.. from top to bottom.

I thought Harrison Ford looked pretty good for 73, but agree he needed to be killed off. I thought Carrie Fisher looked really really old for 59. She has not aged well.

Saw the movie today, it was alright. I would have preferred more background on the new emperor guy. Where did he come from? And who is he? But I guess we'll find that out in part 8.

Yeah, she looks like she's 80 in the movie with makeup and going on a diet and working out for 6 months.

I would actually be surprised if Clay has an overall favorable review.

My 7 year old asked questions about the various plot holes at 1:30am after seeing it with me. I just spoke to my Dad and he had the same feeling, overall, as I did, although his expectations weren't nearly as high as mine.

Harrison carried the movie the younger actors were uninteresting, and the Duex Ex Machina of Rey's sudden expertise of the force was so lame and the awkward biracial romance storyline with Finn.

6.5 out of 10 because of Harrison Ford.
