Going from 6.5 up to 2.5 up changes the entire course of the season.

Bullpen blew four leads in the 8th or later in two games.

Braindead manager, a shit offense, and a withering pen is a recipe for a significant collapse in the second half. I'd put the O/U for Cardinals wins at 91.

even if we get the WC game or Pitt does, we will play each other in the NLDS. They are a bad matchup for us.

I'd probably go ahead and DFA Rosenthal and his terrible 1.49 ERA

You only show up to wag your finger at Cardinals fans when they are angry about something. You are pathetic.

And just to give you a little info on Rosenthal, if he can't get a secondary pitch within shouting distance of the strike zone, he becomes extremely ordinary, even with a plus plus plus fastball. He has lost control of secondary pitches for long stretches before and it was ugly.

We took 3 extra inning games from them at our park. They are a damn good team.
He's had a great season thus far.

He had a shit weekend.

The Pirates are loaded with fastball hitters and Rosenthal's was straight, had no command and he didn't have any kind of wrinkle to throw with it this weekend.

No, I don't believe it's any sort of indictment on Rosenthal the pitcher, but we had a chance go into the hottest team in baseball's barn, take 3 out of 4 and actually expand our lead despite being shorthanded and run down. Instead Rosenthal picked the absolute worst possible time to simply lose the feel for his pitches.

It took 2 batters last night to see that he wasn't going to get a handle on his stuff last night. Our only hope was for the "Motte Save" where 3 rockets are hit into somebody's glove. 3 blown saves in 2 days against the plucky upstart that is now absolutely convinced it can beat you and get to savor that fact for 4 days.

There's no way to spin this - it was an AWFUL weekend and ultimately I'm pretty sure we don't hold onto the division because of it.

Dude, it's ****ing baseball. The Cardinals are 2.5 games up with 73 ****ing games to play. 73. Blowing 2 saves in July doesn't lose you the division

Do you guys ever read any of your posts a few days later and realize why people hate Cardinals fans or are you just totally ****ing naive?

Seriously. The Royals got swept by the Astros and then the Astros proceeded to lose 6 games in a row, including get swept by the Tampa Bay Rays, a team that Royals just got done sweeping after get swept by the aforementioned Astros.

Losing two heartbreaking games because your cyborg closer decided to look human for 1 weekend, in July, doesn't lose you a ****ing division

I just ... it's hard to breathe.

.500 ball gets us to 93 wins.

You really think this team is gonna play under .500 for the rest of the season?

I'd take the over all day long on 91 if it were offered to me.

We should probably all take a deep breath or two.

We shouldn't panic but there are some real reasons for concern. The team just isn't hitting and hasn't been for a while but has been lifted by ungodly pitching. It's doubtful that the pitching will keep up and we have to start worrying about innings for Wacha and Martinez in the second half. Hopefully the hitting picks up with the return of Holliday and an acquisition or two. If it doesn't, the second half could be rough.

If this team is struggling after the trade deadline then I'll be worried.

Yeah, the past two weeks of baseball have been particularly bad. But there are still a lot of unknown variables go our season.

It would be nice to be able to move someone to 1B, though I doubt this is the answer. We are missing that one traditional slugger.

According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, the Reds have made Jay Bruce available via trade.
There have been similar rumblings from other sources over the past few weeks. Bruce has a decent .806 OPS with 13 home runs and 42 RBI in 84 games this season, and he's under contract through the 2017 campaign at a fairly reasonable rate ($12 million this year, $12.5 million next year, $13 million option the year after). The 28-year-old should draw interest from a range of teams. Look for the Reds to become major sellers almost as soon as the All-Star festivities conclude at Great American Ball Park.
