I've got no dog in this fight. Suck for those who were majorly let down. I enjoyed it, and maybe it was because I never had set a high bar for the first part of the new trilogy.

Any of the criticism of VII probably has a degree of validity, but I could pick apart any of the episodes for X or Y reason.

Sorry for those bummed out. I wish everyone came away having enjoyed it.

I guess I am not as fanatic about it to the point where I have much motivation to debate about it. It is what it is, and I look forward to seeing the next installment.

FWIW, I've been perusing theforce.net for the past 20 minutes or so and I'm seeing either "I love it! 9/10!" or people that are going into great detail (like myself) about the things that didn't work and why they didn't like the film.

It's somewhat interesting to see the different sides. It's either "awesome" or supremely flawed and a Abrams "re-imaging" of ANH. The people that liked the film are ranking it second or third in the series and the people that don't rank it 7 out of 7 and well below TPM.

I still can't understand why it's been a critical darling, other than it's not TPM and there's no JJB but hey, to each, his own.

That's just crazy. I would plant 7 right in between the original trilogy and the prequel trilogy (and a long ways ahead of the prequel trilogy). I really enjoyed it but it doesn't touch the original trilogy yet.

I'd rank #6, only ahead of AOTC, and just barely.

The love scenes in AOTC were only slightly dumber than the aliens that attacked the pirates on Han & Chewie's ship (whatever the **** that was) which was a completely worthless and unnecessary scene.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned that Snoke looked like a combo of Gollum and Voldemort.

It was a completely unoriginal and uninspired design.

I know you liked TPM and ROTS, and like you said, to each their own. I found little if any redeeming quality to the prequels. I'd put this one solidly in the middle. I mean, I get what you are saying, and I even agree with your takes, but even with that I can't not like this film. I guess I just thought it was fun and had a lot of endearing qualities that we have not seen since...well, the original trilogy. It was not better than the original, and I wish they would have found a better obstacle than another more powerful Death star, but other than that...I was totally fine with it.

Saw it today. It was okay, but I had higher expectations for some reason. It's one reason why I don't like going to the theater to see movies.

It was basically A New Hope: The Next Generation

I can understand people not liking it because the plot was so similar to the original Star Wars movie.

It didn't bother me. I guess that's because it's been 38 years since the original one, and in many ways this movie felt like a reboot instead of a sequel. It's a way for a whole new generation of fans to really get into Star Wars.

The best thing about the movie: NO ****ING JAR JAR BINKS!!!!

And, I'm glad that they killed off Han. Harrison looked really old out there.

But, the audience hooted and hollered when the opening plot crawl thing began. Not so much at the ending.

I'm not demonizing anyone for having a different opinion or perspective of the film, I'm just giving my opinion. No one else is required to agree.

It's just the more I think about it, the more absurd the logic and premise become.

I still can't get over the fact that Kylo Ren had the power to "Freeze" people in place, yet when Rey "focused" on the Force for 5 seconds (something she thought was a myth an hour prior), she suddenly broke his "Force Hold", chopped off his arm, wounded his shoulder, slashed his face (and possibly blinded him - that one's still up for debate) and kicked the living shit out him, which essentially negates the reason for Jedi or Force training of any kind, something that had gone on for 1,000 years prior to Anakin/Vader and Sidious destroying the Jedi Order.

There are just so many stinkin' plot holes and absurdities.

Well, Han had just died and Lukes reveal was nothing but underwhelming sequel bait. Hard to really get too pumped up.

Pretty much what I felt. I am glad others enjoyed it though and hopefully the next one will be better.

George had his idea for 7-9, which Disney initially purchased. Shortly thereafter, they decided to toss his ideas to the wayside and hired Michael Arndt, who wrote the screenplay to Toy Story 3.

After months of bitching by JJ Abrams, Ardnt was fired. Kathy Kennedy then put Kasdan together with Abrams and they threw out 90% of Arndt's screenplay (although he still received credit) and co-wrote TFA.
