Yes, MSU had a weak out of conference schedule. They still have the sixth hardest schedule in the country. That's how good the SEC is. Even with a nine game season, the Big 12 can't come close to the strength of schedule that the SEC teams have.

Forget the SEC West, though. SEC East teams schedules per Sagarin are 7, 9, 11, 12, 14, 18, and 23.

All of the teams played 12 games (except Florida who got shorted a win by having a cupcake game canceled). The SEC schedules are more difficult, yet twice as many SEC teams qualified for bowl games as Big 12 teams.
