USA Today predicts Chiefs at 4-12 for 2014

I could see it happening but really 6-8 wins seems pretty doable.

AFC West

Broncos 12-4 (2): Could be better than 2013 team even if wins and offensive output dip. But schedule is murderous.

Chargers 8-8: Last year's schedule allowed late-season charge. This year's could easily produce late-season slide.

Chiefs 4-12: Tight salary cap meant crippling free agent defections, and they didn't sufficiently reload in draft.

Raiders 3-13: Best thing influx of over-the-hill vets can do is change culture. Carr, Mack promise brighter days ahead.

That's a BIG reason I think the Dung-keys are gonna have a tougher year too. We played a lot of the same teams and they also beat up on lots of average to below average teams.

The schedule is just awesome.
Big time national games against big time opponents.
10-6. First PO win comes vs NE.
Pass rush is Relentless.
Offense stays on current trajectory.
Abdullah is serviceable.
Poe becomes the most dominant NT in the game.
Our LB core is the games best.

Catapano is never heard from.....at all
Flowers is banged up again.
Cooper is still having growing pains.
Depth a FS becomes a problem.

Schedule turns out to be not so daunting.

Abdullah is an upgrade over Lewis. And Commings is an upgrade over Abdullah, I believe that will be seen at some point. We got better there trading Commings for Lewis.

Walker is better than Jackson for half the price. So is Bailey, and Catapono.

Asomoah got hurt yes but he was straight benched, for Schwartz. Albert last year was solid but he is out for a quarter a game it seems and got called for pre-snap penalties rather often. Did we upgrade at LT? Unless Fisher is what he is suppose to be, no. But if he is? Hell yes. At RG? No, but we have 4 guys (Rishaw, LDT, Fulton, Linkensuck) who may start there, who knows what we have in the first 3? RT, Stephenson is surely better than Fisher was last year.

Mays and Jordan are both average or below. No difference, but Mays had better numbers last year.

So yeah, if two young linemen step up, I think we are better. No question.
I think you are insane.

They brought in players to immediately upgrade their weaknesses where we could have more easily closed the gap before. So not only do they have the advantage at QB, they have an advantage at more positions now.

KC upgraded their pass rush which is what sunk the team the 2nd half of the year after the injuries hit. That's huge. Denver signed a couple big name gimps, a borderline 2 reciever, and a thug safety super bowl loss = disappointing following season

Yep. BUT created holes along the OL... What about WR? How does Safety look? Many questions - far too many for them to all work out. Point is Denver upgraded known weaknesses with top tier talent and didn't create any new one's. They are better than last year, thus making it harder for the Chiefs to close the gap this season, for more reasons than just Manning.

We will see how they play together. This isn't Madden.

Sure, that's all we can do. Same can be said about the Chiefs. I was just pointing out that Denver could be considered better than last year because they made solid improvements (on paper) this off season. And, in doing so, made it harder for KC to close the gap for more reasons other than Payton Manning, which of course is the biggest reason.

And that is the only area the Chiefs have addressed (and it wasn't even the most glaring area).

FS? Counting on internal guys to improve and improve the play at the position (not a daunting feat, but still)

OL? Let its best and second-best player walk. Shuffling things around. Huge question marks at LT, RT and RG.

WR? Didn't add any talent despite plentiful talent being available in the draft. Still below average at WR1 and WR2, and complete question marks at WR3.

TE? Again, didn't add any talent. Relying on internal guys and a couple of longshots (undrafted FA/converted basketball player and a guy who microfracture surgery turned into a gimp).

CB? Flowers is holding out, Smith and Cooper were not great.

Thats the thing I don't understand, Duncan is right. This coming season should be called the IF season. If the OL gells, IF Alex doesnt revert or get hurt, IF a safety emerges If if if if....
