God this would have been some crazy shit. It’s too bad Baltimore panicked and massively overpaid him on a long term deal.

The biggest tell of all in that is they likely plan to use Mathieu as the SS primarily. Meaning that FS is still a need.

Free agency is sometimes like an auction where the player will go to the highest bidder. Bidding is based not only on money but also on the terms of the contract.

That was what this situation reminded me of. Chiefs were willing to offer big money but on a short term deal, whereas Baltimore was willing to offer both big money on a long term deal.

In reality, Chiefs entered the sweepstakes and lost by getting outbid. Did Veach play it right? He may or may not have. That is hard to tell at this point in time. But yeah giving a player like Earl Thomas a 4 year deal with big money is a risk especially since that player is coming off a season ending injury. We learned from Eric Berry and I am sure we don't want to commit those same mistakes again.
