Busting 4 myths about the Kansas City Chiefs defense

Busting 4 myths about the Kansas City Chiefs defense (it’s not all Bob Sutton)

https://www.arrowheadpride.com/2017/...all-bob-sutton

Sometimes you hear something that you’re not sure is true, and you just shrug and move on with your life. At least, that’s what you do if you’re a healthy human being. If you’re not, you obsessively research until you’ve dug into the truth of the matter. Unfortunately for me (and perhaps fortunately for you), I fall into the latter camp.

There’s a lot of talk about the defense right now, and deservedly so. After all, the pass defense looked quite poor against the Raiders merely a week after the run defense looked like a sieve against the Steelers. That’s... less than ideal. The Chiefs hung 30 on the Raiders but it wasn’t enough to win, and the defense wasn’t able to stop the Raiders from traveling 80 yards in under two minutes (well, with all the stoppages it was more like 20, but whatever) and scoring the game winning touchdown on Thursday.

When stuff like that happens, people are going to talk. And that’s what has happened. A lot of talk about the defense against Oakland has been based around a few key points........

Like I said in the Bob Sutton thread, if our DB's could execute some basic defensive plays the last 2 weeks we are still undefeated.
I'm not saying this to lay it all at Alex's feet, but the same could be said of the offense.

Pitt game I agree was on Alex due to missing too many wide open opportunities. Dropped passes were an issue too. It was a replay of the playoff game in damn near every facet.

Raiders game I don't put much if any of that loss on the offense except Wilson who should have easily gotten both feet down and converted on 3rd down.

Considering how little they actually had the ball its amazing they scored 30 points.

You'd think using three draft picks on the secondary in 2016 would have helped infuse some talent.

Peters is the only DB worth a damn that Dorsey drafted in his tenure in KC. He also almost completely ignored linebackers in the draft besides late round nobodies. Is it any surprise that our defense has finally fallen off a cliff?

Good read and did a bit to assuage my fears.

Our guys aren't incredibly talented but a lot of these issues seem to be lack of execution more than just being beaten outright.. except plays that involve Gaines, of course. He just gets beaten on nearly every play.

Who taught these players? Decided who to start? Decided which scheme to use? Stop with all the excuses, Sutton is responsible for the entire defense.

Murray is being asked to fill the shoes of a multiple 1st team all pro. The defensive scheme needs to adjust to Murray. You simply can't ask Murray to out there and duplicate Berry's play.

This team desperately needs a nickel CB to replace Gaines. Hoping Nelson is that guy.

Sutton is a Reid apparatchik, but the cupboard is bare in the secondary.

I do not expect him to be able to make chicken salad, at the current moment.
