It's not so much because they did it, it's because they were in a position to do it.
The organization is such a dumpster fire that they just burned cap up while other teams are treating cap space like gold. It takes years of stupid moves to make this move a "smart one".

It does matter. Because if they get no value from assweiller as a contributing player, it means they are paying a ridiculous price to get a 2nd round draft pick.

The Browns weren't going to be able to logically use up enough space to hit the salary floor over one year, or multiple years. They were going to be penalized in result which would help out rival squads. Getting a 2nd round choice is better than jack shit. |

Would you cut alex Smith, knowing you'd be on the hook for his salary, but also getting a second round pick out of the deal?

this is turning into an intriguing situation regarding teams looking for qb's. does this mean some of these qb's in the draft fall to the chiefs?
and how do you go from being a bronco, to a texan, to a brown in less than two years |

Well, what this comes down to is the Broncos normally only draft Browns quality players since HorsesAssHorseFace took over.

I would think those same teams still get the rookie qb. Sit them suck with, get another great slot and fill around your young qb.

I think Brock pretty clearly wins. They gave someone a high round pick just to make him go away.
