Mike and Mike breaking up

Personally, I disliked them, a lot. Used to listen for an hour in the morning before 810's Border Patrol came on, but every show was: Patriots, LeBron, Cowboys, Jets, Coach K, LeBron, Cowboys, Belichick, Steph Curry, Izzo, Brady.

I tuned back in the Monday after the Royals won the WS. I swear to God, this is how the show opened: "Congrats to the Kansas City Royals for winning the World Series, what a nice team you have. But we've got to talk about how the Mets blew the series, literally handed it to them ..." And then they spend the next 10 minutes talking about the Mets before moving on to the NBA.

Anyway, good riddance. I hate all non-sports-events ESPN anyway.

Sources: Greenberg leaving Mike & Mike for new ESPN TV program

The end of one of the longest-running partnerships in sports radio is coming soon.

SI.com has learned via multiple sources that ESPN executives are moving forward with the plan to shift Mike Greenberg—one half of the long-running Mike & Mike radio show on ESPN Radio—into a new role as the lead host of a television show that would air in the mornings on ESPN. The new show will have elements of SportsCenter—which currently airs at that time—as well as a traditional morning show. It is expected to be based in New York City. The new program would put an end to end to Greenberg’s on-air partnership with Mike Golic, which began in October 1998. Mike & Mike currently airs weekdays on ESPN Radio from 6–10 a.m. ET and is simulcast on ESPN2.

Via an ESPN spokesperson, Greenberg and ESPN executives Traug Keller, Burke Magnus and Connor Schell declined comment.

ESPN trying to replicate the personality-driven SportsCenter format that has been moderately successful with Scott Van Pelt at night.

It is ironic that Keith Olbermann/Dan Patrick tried to do that on SportsCenter 20 years ago and it freaked out upper management at ESPN, with the thought that no personality or personalities should be bigger than SportsCenter.

Honestly the fatter Mike was probably a bit better - but they both were steaming piles of shit. I think three or four of us could set up a podcast in Clay's mother's basement and produce better quality viewing/listening.

Oh I didn't even know he was still around shows how much I watch sport talk shows and their ramblings lol

Jim Rome sucked I remember that much. Sounded like a blowhard like he knew what he was talking about but just rambled on things no one cares.

I like SVP but hate his show at night. It is hard to believe that is having success it is terrible.

I listen to the show on occasion when I have to use XM instead of local. Greenberg seems to become increasingly more annoying with each passing day, so I'll be glad to see him go.

The show gets good guests. The problem I see with it being Golic Sr. and Jr. is they are so similar it will be like listening to one guy talk to himself.

I agree 100%. Their voices and cadence are so similar that on the radio it would be near impossible to determine who was talking. There have been times when Jr was a guest host and I listened until a break before I knew it wasn't Sr.

ESPN is so lost. They have no idea why they suck so bad and keep losing subscribers.

Some brilliant program producers over there. "Hey, lets give some metrosexual that most people dislike his own morning sports talk show!"

I know those guys catch a lot of crap here, but to me that was one of the better ESPN shows. Pretty relaxing in the morning. Haven't seen it in a while though.

Everyone is losing ratings, the advent of cord cutters, streamers and illegal streamers on top of the billion stations everyone offers now. The additions of sports networks other than just ESPN being added.

ESPN's biggest problem is they're paying out the ass for all of the content they air so the loss of ratings really hurts them. It also makes cable companies not wanna carry them because they are far and away the most expensive station for providers to have.

No matter what they try to do they aren't getting those ratings back, they're gone, has nothing to do with them has to do with how things have changed. They also aren't helping themselves by not understand what their market is. ESPN's market is frankly 30-60 year old men and honestly most of the personalities they promote don't appeal to that demographic, they appeal to a demographic that doesn't watch ESPN or care to watch it. So they turn off the people that do watch while attractive no new people.

Smart business there.
