Marvel's new Iron Man is a black woman.

Or, create a new character like Marvel did with Jessica Jones.

Tony Stark is Iron Man. To have someone that "worships" him while at MIT and who is "allegedly" smarter than Tony at her age is just lame and uncreative.

Yeah, I agree. I thought the Jessica Jones character on NetFlix was great. It came pretty close to a female Batman concept for me. I know that's off, but I never got into comics, so I don't have a lot of characters to compare her to. Which is fine because she is way more interesting as herself than some cheap gimmick like this one.

That's not how comics works. By the time the issue with the Hydra reveal came out the next issue would have been fully written and drawn.

I see stories like this, like when the female Thor happened, and I wonder how many of the people discussing it have even seen a comic in the last year, much less read or even bought one. I know it's been decades for me.

Been decades for me as well until a couple years ago, but the MCU has me grabbing old series and TPB's to read. I actually like the hard stop/start sequences that allow me in a short time frame to read something like Planet Hulk, and then move on to something else like a 1602 run or Preacher, and then move off on to something else. I don't give a crap if it's red Hulk, grey Hulk, or green Hulk. Just give me a good story. I'm not reading the monthly episodes. Civil War was amazing, and I immensely enjoyed House of M even though I know many didn't. I'm not a fan of the new monster/villain every episode anymore, for comics or TV shows. For me it's about the total story.

Unfortunately Moon Knight killed it for me. So many people clamoring for him to be in the MCU, so I thought I'd read his backstory. Utter crap. Haven't read anything since. Well, excpet Saga. Which is probably the only serial I read, but in 3 or 4 episode bursts.

Why is it lame and uncreative?

I don't read comics but even I know these things happen all the time. For example, the Batman in Batman Beyond wasnt Bruce Wayne and the show was still a cult classic and had very positive reviews.

It's lame and uncreative because as smart as they're portraying her to be, IMO, she should have been a new superhero altogether, separate from Tony Stark and Iron Man.

There's no need to have her ride his coattails or assume his mantel.

I stopped reading because of that sort of bullshit. If you want a character that is Thor with tits, make the character on its own, instead of ****ing with the Thor character. Quit ****ing with the icons. It's basically the same as Ghostbusters going all female just for the sake of being female.

And I don't want to see 'Wonder Man', either.

You said, "Because of the backlash, that "reveal" lasted about 10 days." I'm saying the reveal would have lasted the exact same amount of time regardless of backlash.

Or Dick Greyson as Batman, Wally West as the Flash, Bucky as Captain America...

In spite of the success of the movies, comics still don't sell particularly well. Trying to launch new characters without the boost of an existing franchise is a recipe for failure.

So you launch this character in Iron Man, and a year or so down the line Tony Stark comes back and she spins out into her own Iron Girl series. Hopefully she's built enough of a fan base in the main book to stay afloat. I really fail to see why that's such a horrible thing.
