Never was...but had hoped for something better than what we are getting.
It's pretty clear that Smith can't go out and "win" a game all by himself (like a franchise QB should be able to). |

I'm disappointed that he can't do more with this team, but I said all along that if the OL is bottom tier, Alex likely won't be good enough. I say this because with this OL, I think maybe 3 QBs around the league could be enough.
It's more than the OL though. I thought the playcalling would improve.. and I never dreamed that this once top 10 defense would so quickly become a bottom 10 one. So I still think Alex can be good enough, but not with all of these deficiencies around him, no.

Alex's inability to see things before they happen, like release the ball before the guy gets open, means you have to have the Trent Green years level of OL to even compete with the guy. Hard to really be on that bandwagon.

I've lost most hope that this team is going anywhere, but Alex has at least started throwing the ball with some confidence the last 5 quarters of ball.

I've never been "on the bandwagon," but I've always felt that he could be successful with the right tools around him.
I still think that's true to some extent, but if we haven't been able to do that in 3 years, then he's not good enough to build around long-term. I certainly hope that we either give Murray a shot soon to see if he is anywhere close or draft a true QBOTF next year. |

You don't need much of a QB for Reid's offense. Only have to be able to throw from the hash mark to the sideline.

The OL won't be fixed until the Chiefs have a QB who gets the ball out quickly and decisively, who doesn't stare down the rush, and who makes teams defend the entire field honestly rather than allowing them to put 10 guys within 10 yards of the LOS.
Alex Smith makes the OL worse.

I was okay with bringing in Smith. I really thought he could turn into a Trent Green type of QB. It took me a while, but I realized I was wrong and crawled off the Smith bandwagon around Thanksgiving last season.
I'm ready to see a change. Someone else posted this a couple of days ago, and I had kind of forgotten about it, but when Orton came in to QB instead of Cassel, our offensive line suddenly learned to block. I think the same thing could happen when someone comes in to replace Smith. |

Reid is a good coach. But like all coaches, he'll never be great until he has a great QB. Reid has shown he can run a vertical offense. Alex has not. So when you see a lack of vertical passing in KC....who is REALLY responsible for that?

At times. And then there's times where the OL lets free rushers through.
This is a compounded issue.
