Not quite. Social media sites dont have access to every keystroke and file on your device, including keys to your encrypted disk, selling those to advertisers, while using your device and data plan as a server for its updates.

^^ Yeah, I wouldn't say that. I use 7 at work and I'd almost be willing to go to 8 if it means not having to look at those damn transparent windows any more.
I'll probably upgrade to 10 after some extensive testing. I need to bring both the OS X and Windows side up a couple releases. |

Right now, im going to wait until people dig in a bit and there is an easy way to turn off a lot of the stuff that there are no current options for besides registry tweaks and host file settings. While I can do those, I am taking a wait and see approach to it. |

I'm not fond of 10 so far. Too cluttered, too many options and stuff popping up, too many things of different shapes and access points. Call me an old fogey but I was perfectly fine with a simple frigging desktop where I clicked on a folder or an icon and that was it. I don't need stupid "apps" that make my desktop look like an iPhone.
Anyways, I just went into Privacy and basically went down the list and clicked every single selection to "Off". Not sure what else or where else I have to go in this thing to make it more secure but that's a start. No big deal, though, since I only surf for porn while on my iPhone using a private browser. |

Here's a pretty level headed discussion of all the privacy settings if anyone's looking for a walk through.

Turn everything off, but hey guys, if microsoft isnt misrepresenting in ANY WAY what it can do with your data, will never be breached, or called upon against you by a government agency to give up information on you, then you get cool features like voice recognition that where already available in totally non-intrusive ways prior to this! |
