In April, there was word from London that English Premier League side Tottenham wanted to share their new stadium with an NFL team when and if the NFL put a team on that side of the Atlantic.

There’s no team heading there on a permanent basis, but there will be games at Tottenham’s building when it opens in 2018. The EPL team announced that they and the league have struck a 10-year agreement to play a minimum two regular season games a year at their stadium, which is under construction. The stadium is being built with the NFL in mind and will have two fields — grass for soccer, FieldTurf for football — that can be swapped out as needed.

“With growing enthusiasm for the NFL in the United Kingdom, we are committed to hosting NFL games in world-class venues and are excited to partner with Tottenham Hotspur to play games at their future stadium,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement from the team. “We share a vision and commitment to creating the best experience for our teams, fans and the local community.”

The deal does not mean the league will stop playing games at Wembley Stadium, which will host three games during the 2015 regular season. NFL executive vice president of international Mark Waller said, via Daniel Kaplan of Sports Business Journal, that the league has a “great relationship” with Wembley and that securing another site in London gives the league more flexibility in scheduling as well as the opportunity to play more games in London as either a visitor or permanent resident

Except they seem to really support their guys, as opposed to NFL Europe... afaic, that's all Europe needs until they prove they'll support it. Man, look at poor St. Louis, not the greatest football town for sure, but they damn sure support it more than London would, yet they're about to lose their team.

I feel terrible for those fans, I bet that super bowl 16 years ago feels just like yesterday to all of them.

I'm not sure why anyone is surprised. The games in London have been wildly successful, and so they will continue to send a few games over until that is no longer the case.

If you don't like it, well the NFL can't hear your complaints over the roaring sound of cash flowing into their coffers.

Or do the right thing and realize what a ****ing joke these games in Europe are. Put the pro bowl there. Put preseason games there. Hell, put the whole preseason there -- nobody in America actually goes to these games.

This is another one of those moronic decisions that has no positive benefit whatsoever, lots of negatives, and all to make an extra buck. ****ing NFL.

I wonder if cities that lose a home game get any kickback. But it can't possibly be enough to account for the massive amount of money in hospitality and entertainment lost by losing a home game. If I'm a large hotel chain with a hotel there, can't imagine they're too happy about it.

CITIES? Oh **** no. The NFL doesn't give a damn about cities.

The actual owner of the team that lost the home game? Of course he gets made whole. He isn't losing a game day of revenues for nothing.

The NFL is all about making money FOR THE NFL. They will bend over cities and anyone else that they need to in order to make the owners richer. The concept of cities building stadiums for incredibly rich ****ing owners is ridiculous, and yet they do it all the time.
