I think some of the reviews were skewed because they were amazed at what he turned out on what's a pretty slim budget for a big sci fi film.

"Hollywood" is not out of ideas. Funding for any film whether it's a $5 million dollar film or a $200 million dollar film is incredibly difficult to find, regardless of the star or director attached.

It's somehat easier getting funding for "known" characters, sequels and so on but it's still difficult. I have friends that have written scripts for $10 million dollar films and $150 million films and in every instance, I've heard the same exact words muttered:

"It's a miracle that films even get made".

He really spent a lot of time working in his vision for the film and the positive internet response (much like the leaked Deadpool footage) is why this film was ultimately greenlit.

That said, I'm not a fan of movies or his vision but do hope this works.

I loved the concept of AVP. I even read some novels back when I was in high school..

The movies were lackluster though.
