All passing plays from Cardinals game: All 22 footage

Conclusions:

Bowe doesn't get open like a #1 receiver should like I've been saying all along. I saw maybe 2 plays where Alex should have thrown the ball to him but didn't. One of which would have been a TD. More often that not he was covered like a book.

How the **** was that pass interference on Fasano?

The line really really really sucks.

How was that a fumble by Kelce again?

That last drive failure was on Andy Reid not Smith. Those route combination were ****ing terrible.

There is zero chance we get Cobb.

Even if we let him go, there will be a team out there with more cap room who will throw more money at him than we do.

A team like the Broncos, for instance.

It wasn't pass interference until we scored.

That play just makes my blood boil. That and the 3rd and 17 where he's got 2 receivers streaking one-on-one and he checks down for a short dump-off. I only watched the first few minutes. And it's clear the guy is the king of the dink and dunk.

Several points in the game where a receiver has a step and he resorts to the checkdown. Regardless of route combinations on the final minute drive, just no urgency whatsoever to push the ball down the field -- even with the game on the line with a single safety high daring you to throw the ball, his first look is for a quick dink and dunk.

Receivers like Cobb don't do you any good if you have a QB who waits for you to get separation before he gets rid of the ball.

I still think that can be bowe, but I digress
No ****ing way.

Bowe, was, at one time, fast. Not anymore.

And he's always run shit routes. Doesn't study the game. He's a bad fit for this offense. He loves KC, but he's not good for the team - either as a receiver or his salary.

Receivers like Cobb get separation way before the ball is thrown. Cobb can get separation right off the line.

Elvis Grbac had a great year for the Chiefs when our offense was humming and Tony G and Derrick Alexander were getting open all day. Then he went to the Ravens and sucked again.

Bottom line: Smith would be fine if we had great receivers. He can't manufacture things like a good QB does.

Cobb is obviously a lot better than what we have. He obviously helps us stretch defenses out.

But the underneath stuff isn't going to work as well because Smith doesn't take defenders out of the box. The plays where Rodgers buys time (he holds on to the ball for a really long time)... that doesn't work because Smith is always looking to the safety valve after his primary read is cut off. Cobb is tremendous at making plays on the ball. That doesn't work if your QB resorts to the safe, wide open pass every time.

Unless Smith changes his ways, a lot of Cobb's value is completely wasted unless the plan is to use him as a decoy. Smith is going to primarily use him as a dink and dunk YAC option and occasionally throw him a deep ball. That's such a waste of the guy's talents. I've given up on thinking Smith will ever be any different.

some legit criticsim such as smith missing bowe on the pass to sherman...but the pressure was on smith almost every play, and other than the bowe miss mentioned, there were no glaringly wide open receivers as many try to argue---these chiefs receivers do not separate well...what smith did well in this film was move around in the pocket and buy time, leading to plays like the pass downfield to avant

So why were Kelce and Wilson so successful then? Wilson is a very poor mans Randall Cobb and Smith was hitting him late in the season. So why wouldn't he do the same for Cobb? It's not like there was anybody going deep to clear out the way for Wilson. Same with Kelce.

Cobb would work perfectly in this offense.

I don't care what Wilson's #'s say. He got yards. He got targets. But the offense was downright miserable against Arizona and Pittsburgh. It wasn't any better than when Wilson wasn't getting targets. I've said this before, by the time the season ended, we had Kelce, Wilson, Avant, DAT, Bowe as our receivers. It's not as miserable a haul as people want to make it to be.

Kelce was successful because that's Alex Smith's game. Dink and dunk.

Cobb is only a perfect fit for KC because we need receivers to compensate for our QB's weaknesses. KC isn't the perfect fit for him because while he'll be used a lot, his talents will largely go to waste. If we're somehow able to bring back the end of 2013 version of Alex Smith, great. But I don't think we'll see that Alex Smith unless our defense sucks.
