Auto Mechanics Advice Needed
I'm going through my 3rd muffler in a year on a 2003 Toyota Tacoma. I've replaced all of three of them as close to the engine (I'm not a big mechanic I'm sorry don't know the term) as possible. Could this have somthing to do with the high elevation I live in? The engine is stock so there's no extra pressure being put through it. I could understand a bad weld job on one but this is becoming a habit.
Any idea what the hell could be causing this? This is what the replacements looked like: http://www.carid.com/2003-toyota-tac...m-7787271.html The biggest pain in the ass is getting those supports through the rubber rings. |

Don't beat it at all with the minor exception of some backroads to get to fishing holds and hunting spots. Couldn't tell you the last time it bottomed out. Everything is golden except for the muffler for some reason. |

I am the the shop. Doing it myself which may be part of the problem. Not allowing room for vibration is a good start. I basiclly muscle the rubbers on.

I've seen the guys that work at the local muffler shop. I trust me more. |

I suspected blinker fluid but I'll break out the hack saw on this one and check the bearings. Thanks dick.

So hypothetically....or in reality...
You take a piece of equipment to a dealership for repairs. You're in a pickle and it needs to be done quickly and they say "everything is broken, we are going to need to replace shitload of stuff that probably doesn't really need to be replaced" but you're in a jam and you take their word for it. They call at the end of the day that you need it, you scramble to their shop, find your bill to be for $2k more than expected, but we don't have time to argue and load up and head across the amber waves of grain.... 3hrs into your task, the engine, seizes. You walk 2 miles to a ride and haul it to another dealership. They say "wow, they replaced a lot of shit that probably didn't need to be replaced....and oh by the way, the engine has no oil, so it's shot. That'll be XXXXX $$$ to replace. They claim they didn't service it......but sonnabitch, you were 3" away, and for that bill and the orders "get it ready to go, do what needs done"......and they give it to me with no oil. On the phone they didn't really seem to think I should be angry with them. Pompei had less red asses than I'm giving tomorrow. |
