Ten Things About Your 2014 Kansas City Royals

I write about the Chiefs all during the regular season. Now it's your turn to take a "thing" and write a "ten things." Here's 10 things, pick one, write a couple paragraphs about it. The theme is talking about your impressions on these ten topics in light of this remarkable 2014 season. Pick one, and write one:

10. Did You Believe? Do you Still Believe?

9. Redemption: Butler and Moose and Aoki. Streaky, or lucky, or what? Do we keep Butler and Aoki next year?

8. Starting Pitching: Big Game, The Ace, JGuts or Vargie: Importance of each:

7. The Middlers: Tiny Timmy, (How Can you Laugh When You Know I'm) Downs, The Outback Aussie, Chen Music, Muy Bueno, Finny the Kid, Brenden Frasier: How bout it?

6. Who wins Gold Gloves this year?

5. Break the bank for Big Game James???

4. Edgar Frederick Yost III: Is he the Forrest Gump of MLB Managers? BTW: Did you know he was a Taxidermist before he started coaching baseball???

3. Daddy Warbucks and Tommy Boy: Is this a fluke, or will they put some bucks into free agency?

2. More GMDM? Do you extend him, or look for somebody better?

1. Who is the emotional and spiritual leader of this team? Salvie, BGJ or Gordo?

Discuss!

4. Yes. I've come to think Ned Yost is some sort of genius. I've never seen a team play this loose and be so happy for one another in the postseason. That starts with the manager. These guys play their ass off for him. Plus, he loves this city. Did you see him almost lose it last night during the trophy celebration? I bagged on him all year and now I think he was just trolling us. Love him now. By the way, if the Royals swept the WS or even won it in 5, Ned probably gets HOF consideration no matter what else he does in his career.

Both teams in the series are Wild Cards, and the two teams combined only lost one game in the LCS. That's pretty damn amazing.

I think we're going to have a real battle on our hands. But I know we can hit Jeremy Affeldt. And Gregor Blanco? He's no Lo-Can....

Baseball fans must have it worse that football fans. Bat envy?

I don't remember football having as many boner pill commercials. Must be some market research that says baseball fans have limp dicks.

Outside of Perez' limp bat, I haven't seen a weakness across the board in the playoffs. Including Ned. I remember when I was in KC this summer and most folks wanted to kill Billy Butler. He's proven his worth in these playoffs.

Ten Things ? A lot more than that !!!

What we have learned about our "Boys in Blue", are now that they have become our team of "Men in Blue" because they have finally synchronized their physical talent with actual belief in themselves "when it counts". It's all coming together in sooooooo many ways. They have finally learned how to "play big" in "big games".

But that number one thing if any ??? The mind is a powerful thing when hitting on all cylinders

I think Perez is just gassed. Hopefully a few days off will help him recover.

10. Did You Believe? Do you Still Believe?
I've never stopped loving this team, but there were times when I was ready to declare this regime/team a complete failure. Now? Yes, I absolutely believe they will win the World Series.

9. Redemption: Butler and Moose and Aoki. Streaky, or lucky, or what? Do we keep Butler and Aoki next year?
I think both are playing their last games in Kansas City. Sure, that could change, and both have had much better AB's as of late. Butler's lack of versatility makes him a bad buy for a team like the Royals to pay. Aoki's going to walk, IMO.

8. Starting Pitching: Big Game, The Ace, JGuts or Vargie: Importance of each:
Big Game has taught the starters how to grind. He's a fierce competitor and a great teammate. He is a fundamentally sound pitcher and knows how to PITCH, not just throw.

Ace has the best stuff I've seen in a starter in a LONG time. And he has swagger. Big time set of testes, I tell you.

JGuts has a calming influence on the team, a well-travelled veteran who can still get it done on the big stage.

Vargie has struggled at the end, but had a great year for us. He's made GMDM look pretty damned good and for his flaws and fears of the long ball, has gotten it done twice in the postseason.

7. The Middlers: Tiny Timmy, (How Can you Laugh When You Know I'm) Downs, The Outback Aussie, Chen Music, Muy Bueno, Finny the Kid, Brenden Frasier: How bout it?
Frasor has been really good and unheralded. I'll never forget Finny's WC Game...he's been awesome. Couldn't care less about the others.

6. Who wins Gold Gloves this year?
Cain, Gordon, Perez, Escobar

5. Break the bank for Big Game James???
Only the bank called Qualified Offer Title and Loan

4. Edgar Frederick Yost III: Is he the Forrest Gump of MLB Managers? BTW: Did you know he was a Taxidermist before he started coaching baseball???
He's grown and developed as a tactician. I kneel before him.

3. Daddy Warbucks and Tommy Boy: Is this a fluke, or will they put some bucks into free agency?
I think we're here to stay for awhile. There's a good, young, affordable base of players here for awhile.

2. More GMDM? Do you extend him, or look for somebody better?
Yep, pay the man. And Yost, too.

1. Who is the emotional and spiritual leader of this team? Salvie, BGJ or Gordo?
Salvy teaches them how to have fun, BGJ taught them how to win, and Gordo teaches them how to work.

Well done. Pretty much agree with all. Hosmer could win a Gold Glove on his reputation, but he was out for a long stretch with injury, so maybe not this year. Cain is a lock.

I'm soooooo excited for Tuesday to get here. I just hope the boys represent and don't fall flat. They should all take a double dose of Cialis on Monday!
