I agree with the Frank White sentiment. That would just be tits.
Or... Paul Splittorff's family. Dick Howser's family. Dan Quisenberry's family. Sung Woo parachuting from a helicopter. Hootie 2.0 catching one with his face from GFHB. Or how about this....Jeffrey Maier. |

Hootie 2.0 grew up a Ken Griffey, Jr. diehard. To the point where his number was always #24. Well, the Kingdome had that "THE ROOF IS FALLING!" issue when Hootie 2.0 was like, I don't know, 9 or 10?!?! So, the Mariners had to come play home games at the K when Hootie 2.0 was a very young boy. Well, pops, being a supportive father (can you believe I turned out this way in a 2 parent family?!) bought tickets to said games on the HOME DUGOUT (the Mariners) so Hootie 2.0 could score a Griffey, Jr. autograph. well, the ****ing prick doesn't sign the entire series so... Hootie 2.0 lines up behind THE UNIT...he's a young kid, so young kids are hard to get mad at he's signing, and signing, and singing...Hootie 2.0 is trying, and trying and trying Mr. Big Unit says "last one!" and Hootie 2.0, being the stubborn, insufferable prick that he is... decides, nah...and rolls his JEFF MONTGOMERY GIVEN BALL right down that dugout and hits Mr. Big Unit as he's walking away Mr. Big Unit, very annoyed after getting hit on the head with a ball...turns around, most likely to try and get angry... realizes it's a 8 or 9 year old kid...begrudgingly shakes his head, borrows a sharpie from a kid who has already gotten an autograph, signs the Montgomery issued ball, and hands it to Hootie 2.0 ****in' Mr. Big Unit! What a guy! Oh, and...20 years later! **** you Griffey! What a dick. Literally went to all 3 games with one agenda is a little kid and you signed ZERO AUTOGRAPHS. |

I coached little league baseball for 10 years. I got a call from the league office if I would add a kid to my team. The parent had heard that our team believed in positive reinforcement and the best players played. They wanted to get on my team. No tryout, no names or even what their level of play was. I said no. A couple of days later a coach asked me why I turned down Frank Whites kid on my team? I had no clue it was Frank Whites kid. I called the league the next morning and Frank Whites kid was on our team. He had no talent but was a fantastic teammate and a great kid. Of course I told Frank he was welcome to help with the team, work with his son any time. He said he would be a distraction and wanted the kids to be the focus. He did teach me one fun drill to practice fundamentals, He came came to about 80% of the games. Usually he stayed in the background but still cheered like any other parent. Brought snacks like every parent, was nice to people who recognize him but when it became a distraction, he would go to his car. I told him to come to the dugout if people bugged him too much. He never did. He was as nice as he could be. Great parent to have on the team.

The first game I ever attended at The K...
I was 4 years old...we sat on the home dugout, per usual...back when they still had ****ing turf...miserable outside barely remember but pops always encouraged me to be Hootie 2.0 and I keep yelling, and yelling, and yelling "Mr. Mr., THROW ME A BALL! THROW ME A BALL!" I'm 4. Finally...a player (no idea who)...comes over...says, "hey kid! can you catch?" Me: "Uhm no! But my sister can!" Tosses a ball to my sister. First game ever. 4 years old. 1990. 1 for 1. I got so many balls it was sickening. We always sucked when I was a kid but they were always generous. |

I say, "**** it!" Chuck it into the woods. 1997. No joke. He was like..."wtf!" Just never really cared about autographs. What do they mean? I stood next to my favorite football player in the world as a 14 year old (Tony Gonzalez) at the airport wearing a Gonzalez jersey...I never acknowledged him, and he surely didn't give a **** about me. Valueless. The memories mean something. Getting the signatures? Nah. I'll never encourage my kids (if that happens) to get those. Watching the games and remembering THESE MOMENTS are what counts. I'll never forget THIS TEAM for the rest of my life. |
