He's referring to how Smith played those weeks. The kinds of decisions and throws that he made. Smith has conservative tendencies that Reid has been trying to break since the day he got here, and the latter half of the season was more indicative of the kind of play he wants.

Seriously?

It means that Smith became more aggressive in the last 6 or 7 games, taking more shots downfield.

Prior to that, he relied almost exclusively on the short passing game, with rare attempts beyond 10-15 yards.

It means that Alex Smith played the first 9 or 10 games playing not to lose games. Extremely conservative. The last 6 or 7 games, Smith started to let it loose. Even though I'm pissed at the defensive collapse last year, it might have been the best thing to happen to Alex Smith. It's one reason I also hate experts that look at Smith's season in total instead of recognizing that the Smith we saw at the end of the season was a much different QB than we saw in the beginning of the year.

As I've said before, now he has to prove he can close games. Something he failed to do multiple times.

So PFF just reiterates what we all know. Alex isn't all that. Be a lot easier to write that article. "Alex is meh"

This is the same PFF that had Matthew Stafford over Nick Foles in their post-Super Bowl QB ratings last year. They are to football what The Onion is to politics. Difference being, The Onion doesn't charge for their satire. Nothing to see here.

Honest question. Who on this team should alex Smith be targeting down the field?

We shouldn't confuse alex Smith's abilities with your posting abilities.

Alex is quiet and efficient. You are somewhere between meh, and absolute dog shit.

Good Talk.

He is a glorified possession receiver. Bowe is an after the catch monster. He is not a julio jones, josh gordon type. He is a michael Crabtree type. The chiefs do not have one single consistent down field take the top off a defense player on this roster. Maybe DAT can be that.

Brady throws a ton of short bullshit passes but gets a pass with the being safe with the ball label. You can win the SB with Alex. If Flacco, Wilson and Dilfer can than he can as well. Defense is still the key to winning it all. Ask Big Ben. Ask Manning. Ask Rogers. Field and elite defense and we will have a shot every year with Alex or any of our QB's that can limit turnovers.

Defense is going to be so nerfed this season as a consequence of Seattle's raping of Peyton.

The average idiot wants scoring and that's that they're going to get. You cannot rely on having an "elite" defense any longer.

Honest answer, I can't say with any specifity, without access to all 22s..

I do know, going into the first game with the Broncos, Greg Cosell, in an interview with Colin Cowherd said that Alex Smith missed several downfield opportunities in the first 9 games, and that he had to take adavantage of those kind of opportunities against the Broncos for the Chiefs to win.

In spite of his sometimes questionable hands, Donnie Avery is that guy, and in spite of the perception that Bowe is a possession receiver, he was consistently making plays downfield prior to last season.
