You think it's funny?
In zoological anatomy, a cloaca is the posterior opening that serves as the only such opening for the intestinal, reproductive, and urinary tracts of certain animal species. All amphibians, birds, reptiles, and monotremes possess this orifice, from which they excrete both urine and feces, unlike placental mammals, which possess two (or three) separate orifices for evacuation. I think I knew a gal in high school that had one.

Years ago I had a pacman and some whites tree frogs. Always enjoyed feeding them pinkies. Dart frogs are so much more fun to raise, especially the egg feeders. The female dart frogs put an unfertilized egg in with the tadpole so it can eat it. Raising fruit flies is a bit of a pain but doesnt take much work.

Had a King Snake for like 8 years before he died in a tragic accident. Very colorful and cool, but always squirrelly and didn't want to be held at all. Never did get around to buying another the last 6 years, but they are very easy low-maintenance pets.
If I ever did get another, it would probably be a ball python, since if you wanted to get one out of its cage, they usually like to wrap around an arm and chill. Hopefully one that isn't a damned picky eater, which they are notorious for being.

...most of mine feed on F/T Rats weekly. They are one of the top pythons to keep for beginners due to the fact they are good eaters.

To be fair, I seem to remember in the back of my mind that maybe captive-bred ball pythons are better about being handled and eating, while wild-caught ball pythons that some stores sell are not.

But. I am a mod at one of the larger fauna sites so I am familiar with 'Checking the internet to verify'. If either of your friends are having trouble feeding their animals, I know most of the 'big' breeders across the country, and I am sure I know one near them that would be willing to help...

Anyway, I do believe if someone wants a snake, they are better off getting one from a breeder, if for no other reason than it has been fed and picked up by humans its entire life, so you wont look like some huge hairless ape-monster to it.

I have a 55 gallon tank, with a wild caught, just barely hatched painted turtle & a 5in needlefish, plus whatever minnows the needle hasnt eaten yet & a few apple snails.
Betty the turtle is three years old & still only about 4 inches long in the shell, i'm sure the smallish tank has played a role in her small size. She's amazingly tame, wont even go after live fish anymore really, but she does get a varied diet of fresh, frozen & dried foods and has a heat lamp as well as a repto-min uv light. I shouldnt have kept it, but it was found while on a special camping trip with my kids, so she's a kind of memento & besides that, i cant trade her into a pet store being a wild caught animal. Dotty the needle is an awesome silver, purplish & blue fish depending on the light, basically a fresh water barracuda, a gar, not sure why i was stupid enough to put it in with Betty, on paper thats not going to work...for the first six months they've had a perfect detente, but lately Bettys been getting a bit too close, sniffing around & whats so funny, is that unlike any other dumb looking, bug eyed fish that can only think to run... ol Dotty will turn to fight, nip at her head & poke at her with a closed mouth... they're both too big at this point, a new tank is going to be a must real soon, she'll end up taking Bettys eye out or Betty will chomp enough out to kill it. I always like keeping a tank of some kind, once past startup costs its a cheap, entertaining & great to look at hobby. |
