So are any of you guys into the old school stereo receivers?

Most of these bad boys from the list below, are from the late 70's and early 80's and they haven't made anything that sounds the same since.

The raw clean power just isn't in todays products. I'm going to hunt something down for the man cave out in the shop to abuse the neighbors a bit. If you have some old school stuff, what is it, Yamaha, Sansui, Murantz or something else?

Breathtaking.

This system has also served as stage monitors in its day.

Have Phillips 212 and 312 turntables. I like the 212 better.

Great thread!!!!

Man, this thread got me thinking about some of the systems I had back in the day. My favorite rig from those days was a Kenwood KA-7100 into a pair of EARLY Magnaplanars (anyone remember those?). Also had a pair of Altec Lansing Voice of the Theaters. Then I went deaf.

I loved the old-school stuff, but it isn't even in the same ballpark as a properly designed system today. Sure gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling when I fire them up, though.

Old-School JBL is where it's at. Low X-MAX, high efficiency woofers in a huge box made for a very nice sounding and musical speaker.

I'm still rocking the late 80s Kenwood pictured here. Unfortunately I finally gave up the Polk SDA-1Cs last year, it's kinda hard to get the most out of them when you have a wife and kid around.

Oh, and I still have an old Fisher turntable system that I use daily out in the garage, too bad I only have about a dozen or so left of what used to be a substantial collection of LPs.

The last turntable I had was a Technics SL-1200 with a Stanton cartridge. All my equipment was stolen about 10 years ago... and most of my vinyl got caught in a flood. *sigh*

Heh, the first thing I bought with my first paycheck from the first job I ever had was a brand new Technics turntable, a used 70s era analog Kenwood receiver and a set of Bose 301s. I'm sure my mom still hates me for that.

There are companies out there making the type of equipment that is considered "old school" today.
Check out Outlaw's stuff on line, great value, good guys to deal with too.
I have an Outlaw amp that weighs over 90lbs, due to the heat sinks and copper wiring.
I think it rated about 1000 watts. My neighbors just love it................
