OK, question for the St Joe planeteers... Name some "famous" St Joe restaurants(past or present) and what you would consider their "signature" item...

Maybe it is just the item you associate with them .. for instance...

The Bucket Shop= beefburger
Galvin's=fried chicken
36th Street= Tenderloin sandwich
D&G= the Simon
Kleinbrodts= scrappy beef
Cordonnier's = catfish sandwich
Jerre Anne's = any and every side dish

NO CHAINS ALLOWED...

extra credit if you have a recipe for said item!

Ah, thought of another place. The Snow White Restaurant. Used to go there with the Grandparents on Sunday's after services.

Going to go back a bit to my childhood and see if anyone is old enough to remember any of these places that are all gone now except for one and it's had a couple of owners.

El Rancho
Les' Steakhouse
St Joe Marina Restaurant
Southgate Inn(originally in the Southside and then moved to the belt and name changed to the aforementioned 36th Street)
Hawkins Cafe(had a cook named Joe who made the best pancakes I've ever had)

More recently famous for me(although already gone) was Beaty's BBQ,best ribs,sauce and beans I've ever had and I've had a lot.

THE BUCKET SHOP! That is my family. My cousin's side... but grew up there.

ya guys missed Beaudreaux's? best restaraunt by far in joetown...if you like cajun, it is the place!

Betty's Cafe - biscuits and gravy

It's funny that some of our trademark restaurants used to be brothels (hoof&horn & bucket shop). Too bad brothels became outlawed, or this town maybe could have flourished at the turn of the last century and beyond. My friend's opend up the Bucket Shop as MacKelly's for a brief stint, our fantasy league is still named MacKelly's FFL, as we held our first draft there :cheers:

south end, on king hill ave just south of Alabama.

the owner used to work at Spot Cafe before she opened Betty's, so they are very similar.
