I look forward to this series, but it's sad Alex's own coach Mike Martz seems to be somewhat skeptical of his starter.

Chiefs finish the preseason 2-2.
Concerns for the Chiefs: the passing game needs a lot of work. The offensive line allowed 22 sacks in 4 preseason games, including 9 by the Chiefs' new starter at RT, Austin Howard. He may have been drinking. Alex Smith has a firm hold on the starting QB position, but was mediocre in preseason, where his longest pass was just 36 yards (on a dumpoff to Jamaal Charles). Chiefs backup QB competition was a no brainer: Preseason standout: First round pick Chris Lamont, who hauled in 21 catches for 303 yards and 3 TD. His 42-yard TD from Garrett Grayson won Week 4's game against Houston and was the Chiefs' longest play of the preseason. Injury concerns for the Chiefs: Escaped with only a broken jaw suffered by Ron Parker. He will miss a month. The Chiefs open against the Panthers in Week 1. You can check out the full roster and preseason statistics below: Code:

What will it take for Alex to be cut? I'm not sure how his contract is set up.
Might as well just put Grayson out there and groom him to be the starter. |

I've only got $1.5 million in space right now and I have to sign Kelce and Poe next offseason. Besides, Brady and Manning just retired. THE AFC IS OURS. Watch me Dilfer this shit to the Lombardi. |

How the hell does your first round pick super-stud WR only have a 3 year deal?!?! At $8 million/per despite being drafted late in the 3rd, no less.
Way to **** that up, Dorsey.

Didn't want to sign him long term until he proves he can stay healthy. Rookie contracts are more expensive since Madden 2008 was coded long before the CBA changes. I could have actually signed him for 7 years but didn't want to commit just yet. Calvin Johnson got a 6 year, $64 million deal with $27 mil guaranteed as a rookie, so I'd say 3 years, $24 mil with $9.5 mil guaranteed is very reasonable. Alex's huge contract is off the books in three years and then if my WR pans out I'll have money to blow on him. (besides the salary cap is almost never an issue in this game, it always goes way too high, although I've lowered it now for the sake of realism, but it probably won't have an effect past the first three or four years) Updated rosters...and graphics...use the FFXV mod if you want to give this a try, it's incredible: http://www.footballidiot.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=86 Last edited by Hammock Parties; 01-23-2016 at 02:17 PM.. |

Week 1: Chiefs 28, Panthers 24
The Chiefs' new high-flying passing attack has paid immediate dividends. With the score 7-7 and 6 minutes remaining in the first half, the Panthers had the Chiefs backed up on their own 14-yard line. It took just one play for Mike Martz's offense to say: hey, what the **** is up league.
Spoiler!
The Chiefs did not play it safe. Rookie speedster Chris Lamont ran a deep post and when the middle of the field opened up, Alex Smith let it fly.
Spoiler!
Eighty-six yards later Lamont had a TD and Carolina's defense had severe burns.
Spoiler!
The Panthers later took a 24-21 lead in the third, but a 22-yard TD to Travis Kelce proved to be the winning score.
Spoiler!
Alex Smith threw for 293 yards and three TDs, adding another on the ground. He completed only two throws beyond 20 yards for the day, but his receivers definitely made them count. Who knows if this trend will continue, but for one day, the Chiefs were not boring on offense. Kansas City will need to lean on Lamont even more going forward, as #1 wideout Jeremy Maclin was lost for six weeks with a broken foot. Tre McBride will step into his place as the new starter opposite Lamont.
Spoiler!
Potential free agent signing?
Spoiler!
Next up: the Chiefs visit the Atlanta Falcons. Bonus screencap: your top rated NFL QB after one week. Around the league: Andrew Luck won player of the week with 457 yards passing, 63 yards rushing and 4 total TD in a 37-0 blasting of the Texans. Top overall pick Derek Perry had only 109 yards passing in his debut. Ex-Chiefs guard Ben Grubbs, traded in the deal that brought Chris Lamont to KC, has broken ribs that will keep him out for 7 weeks. The Bears also lost Jay Cutler for 12 weeks due to broken ribs. Brian Hoyer will take over for Chicago. Code:

This is entertaining shit tbh. This stuff reminds me of how bad the franchise mode has gotten in Madden now. That 2007/08 franchise was actually pretty good compared to the crap they've developed now. Madden needs to completely scrap and redo franchise mode.

I *could* use the depth, but he wouldn't start. He does have better hands than almost everyone else on the roster (save McBride).
If another injury hits and drops become a problem I'd have to make a move. The main problem I have now is not forcing the ball to Lamont. If I do that, he's definitely going to get hurt. |
