CBS sports: Chiefs nailed draft

Kansas City Chiefs
I might be alone listing the Chiefs here as one of my “winners” from draft weekend, but I love what they did, adding two impact cornerbacks who will help right away with Washington’s Marcus Peters and Oregon State’s Steven Nelson. Kansas City also added an underrated offensive lineman out of Missouri, Mitch Morse, who can play any spot on the offensive line. The Chiefs drafted a pair of Bulldogs with wide receiver Chris Conley and linebacker Ramik Wilson – Conley tested off the charts while Wilson had excellent production in the SEC. And then in the later rounds, Kansas City was able to snag Southern Miss defensive tackle Rakeem Nunez-Roches in the sixth round, which is an absolute steal. General manager John Dorsey and his crew had a great weekend.

The only one I have a problem with is Wilson. He doesn't look like he has the physical tools or instinct.

Our board got raped in the later rounds IMO, it left them struggling to find value.

Thats why we got two corners and ILB's, I bet its not what they wanted but they went ahead with BPA and thats what they came up with.

I just think you could of gotten someone better than Wilson. In fact I think our other ILB pickup is a better prospect.

Really?

Bill Polian praised his instincts and the guy ran a 4.62 at his proday. He was also very productive in the SEC. His knock is that he doesn't take on blockers....the same exact knock that was on Derrick Johnson coming out of Texas...and I know Derrick will help the kid transition. He's a real pro.

I'd have been much happier if we had moved up to take Eric Kendrick's, but Wilson can play.

The video of Wilson was less than stellar.

I don't care what his numbers were, he better learn to tackle with his shoulder and arms instead of hug and dance.

The kid is a reliable tackler from the games I watched of Georgia. We have one of the best, if not the best linebacker coach(s) in the NFL. Gibbs will fix all of the technique flaws the kid has in his first year or two and groom him to be Derricks replacement after this season.

I can't help but think of Donnie Edwards when I watch him play...am I the only one that sees that?

I hope you are right. I see a kid that plays upright and manages to arm tackle college RB's.

NFL RB's will run right through his arm tackles.

Me too.

And they did, problem is it was later in the draft... DJ Alexander looks just as athletic, twice as nasty and his speed is a clear cut above.

Why McBride dropped:

McBride was viewed by many as a third-round pick, but there were whispers he was a bit of a "diva" and may have an ankle issue.

I can hear Holtus now with the call...

1 and 10, San Diego at the Kansas City 24. 2 receivers split out and Gates lines up to his left. Rivers under center - hand off to Gordon.
He bounces it to his right off the guard for a gain of 3, maybe 4 yards just short of the 28. Wilson in on the tackle...
