Artificial grass?

I'm thinking about putting some artificial grass in the back yard and would like to if there's anything I should know. Is it worth the money? Thanks in advance.

I've always wondered why people in the midwest don't buy this stuff. I talked to an artificial grass salesman one time and he ASSURES me that it holds up thru the winter and rainy springs and hot summers. If that is the case, then how come nobody in the Midwest has it on their yards?

I'll be watching this thread. I would LOVE to have artificial grass. I pay some chode $100 a month to mow my yard. That is about $5,000 over 7 years. As long as the artificial turf + install + maintenance cost is below that, seems like a no brainer. Just not sure it would be, yards in KC are pretty big and I have an avg sized one.

1. I would love fake grass. No maintenance.

2. If you have an Home owners association-etc. check to see if that is an issue with them.
I remember being in CA seeing a story. Becuase of the drought, someone took out the grass and replaced it with turf. The HOA told them that was illegal.

Which I think is complete hipocrasy. He wants to save water. He wants green. It is not much different than xeroscape (sp?) Why not?

I hope it works for you.

One of the main reasons parts of So. Cal burns every year is because everything is drier than a popcorn fart for long periods of time. Add lots of people and you have fire.

For years I did a trade show in Anaheim, and often my rental car would be covered in soot.

Artificial grass might be a great option out there, not sure of the cost though.

Personally, I enjoy mowing and the smell of fresh cut grass.
