Chainsaw Question
I bought a "chainsaw" to assist me in cutting down a large bush that died over the winter. It had some pretty substantial branches that I didn't want to cut by hand, so I purchased a "chainsaw." It's just a 10 inch electric model:
http://www.homedepot.com/p/Remington...C983/203556953 I put oil in the little tank and went to town on the bush. Unfortunately, I didn't read that one has to manually press the oil button before each cut to lubricate the chain. So, the chain is now completely dull. I got a replacement chain that I think fits, but I'm not completely sure. Does anyone have any hints or tips on how to put the new chain on without issues? I have the manual (which I've now read...) and it looks pretty straightforward, but this thing gives me the creeps. The wife "suggested" that I pay someone to do this task, but I'm frugal and kind of wanted to try myself anyway. Obviously, she was right but I'm not going to let her know that. Thanks. |

Dont throw away that old chain get a rat tail file and guide sharpen it and it will be good as new. Once you get an idea of the angle to sharpen you can make the job more simple if you have a dremel tool and a chainsaw bit. Lubricate that old chain hang it in your garage when the other gets dull you have a backup.

How much was the chainsaw 70.00 - 90.00? That chain wont stay sharp long the pitch in the timber especially evergreens will do a number on it in short order. You will soon have more money in chains than the saw if you use it much.

1.) you're
2.) Donger has oil industry money. He doesn't need to be frugal. The frugal thing in the OP was a humblebrag.

Yeah, I think it was $99.00. I've only got a few more cuts to make, so I'm not worried about it.

Heck 5 buck bowsaw and a 20 buck ditch bank blade you could have tackled anything your yard can dish out. Also known as a Kaiser blade for you slingblade movie fans.
I dont even want to count how many miles in 36 years of clearing lines ive cut with just one of these. We have cut with some work 10 diameter oaks. And its peaceful you dont have to have the noise of chainsaws running and hauling gas and gear miles from the truck. A crew of 2 line cutters and some elbow grease can clear some serious brush and fell trees. It will put some arms on ya too. |

I've actually got two guys outside right now cutting down a few Aspen trees that died. I went out there and showed them my chainsaw. One guy just stared. The other tried, and failed, to stifle a laugh. I came back inside.
