I have a general rule to be skeptical about paying big money to a guy Belicheck doesn't seem to want anymore.
I know it's worked out some though. |

I kinda doubt he gives a large rats ass.
Somebody's gonna pay him and probably make him the highest paid defender in history. If it isn't LA, so be it...

Having to play DL on the franchise Tag, when he's shown to be probably the best defender in the league isn't ideal.

This almost certainly changes nothing for him. They weren't gonna pay him just because they could. If he wanted significantly more than they wanted to pay anyway, they'd have tagged him either way.

They could have probably signed Watkins and kept their 1st round pick this year for the same price.
He’s a decoy, just like Watkins was. They’re just going to use him to attract coverage primarily. |

Take that and add probably 15% and you know what we'll be looking at with Hill.
That's the most downer of a takeaway I can get from this - the knowledge that we have to enjoy this team while we can because it's gonna be hard as **** to keep it together past this 3 year window. I still think there's a non-zero chance that we're going to see Houston's last year in KC this season. If he's simply the very good player he was last season vs. the true impact difference maker he was before his injuries, I don't think they pay him $21 million in 2019 when they could save $14 million and walk away.

That’s perfect though. Help him the most when he is young and let his own development make other players look better at WR and TE in the future. As for Houston, that should depend highly on the development of KPass and Speaks. If Houston is what he was in 2017 but those two both show a lot of progress, you might make the move. We’d still need to add someone there, however. I actually think that OLB position might be pretty deep right now if those two are worth a damn.
