I'd like to add to the comments about Davis -
Not only does this guy have that nasty cutter. He has mound presence, I think that's overlooked and not talked about enough. There's certainly something to it that'll never show up on the stat sheets. He reminds me (at least somewhat) of Craig Kimbrel & I realize they're not the same 'situational pitchers.' There is something to this guy that makes hitters guess and practically fear his delivery. Love this dude. Wish the Braves had him to set up Kimbrel, but we need another stick, before addressing any late relievers. |

I was telling my baseball buddies last night who don't get a chance to watch the Royals about Davis...
It's the fact he has 3 5 STAR PITCHES that he throws for strikes whenever he wants to... Hitters have no idea. They have to respect his 97 MPH 4 seamer...but know that at any point during the at bat on any count he could throw his breaking ball or his cutter... and it's unhittable every hitter goes up there and has to guess...every swing is a guess swing...and thus every swing turns into a very defensive swing and it's unhittable It's the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. He is the most unhittable reliever I've seen in my life. |

We're getting some light rain now in Davis, about 80 miles from AT&T Park. I hope the rain doesn't delay the start of the game or Bochy's choice of starters. Vogelsong is a good pitcher, but I think the Royals would have a better chance against him than against a short-rested Bumgarner.

Hootie, while doing the teanage girl thing he does by overdramatizing everything, is right.
BTW, can we change his user name to Jan Brady?

I've been telling my buddies at the coffee shop about Wade Davis all year. They're mostly Giants fans. It's fun having them realize what I was talking about. He's just incredible. He makes me laugh his pitches are so ridiculously filthy.

Maybe starting a pitcher who is rested in Vogelsong, a pitcher the Royals have never seen, is better than starting Buttgardener on short rest. This would be the third time the Royals have seen him in two months and if he weren't rested and gave up a bunch of runs, the Series would be over for them.
The Royals can't win the Series tonight. If Vogelsong could get a win, they have their ace going in the next game, all of a sudden Bochy could be up 3-2. If Vogelsong loses then they have their ace tomorrow to try to get back to within a game. They are counting on Bumgardner for a win either way, may as well put him in the best position to get it. Having Vogelsong against Vargas instead of Shields or Ventura is probably a better matchup for them anyway It's not stupid, maybe not what I would do, but you can see where Bochy is coming from. |

I don't get all of this thinking that MadBum is Bob Gibson/Sandy Kofaux/Cy Young all wrapped into one. We beat him in Kansas City in the regular season. Had 7 hits against him in that one. In game 1, we were getting good contact on his stuff all night.
