Let's talk about the Chargers.

There's little doubt they have the league's best QB right now, as Philip Rivers is playing out of his mind. He's doing it with a damn good receiver corps, which features three WRs (Floyd, Allen, Royal) who are fast and run sharp, quick routes, which the Chiefs CBs struggle with, Marcus Cooper especially. And we still don't know what the Chiefs are going to do at the third CB spot to replace Chris Owens -- we might actually be trotting out Phillip Gaines. Yikes.

The biggest reason Rivers is ripping the NFL a new asshole, of course, has been the resurgence of Antonio Gates, who is playing like it's 2008. Gates is uncoverable right now, so it doesn't really matter if we bring Eric Berry back or not.

I don't know anything about the interior of the Chargers' OL, but their bookends of King Dunlap and DJ Fluker are (a.) really good in their own rights, and (b.) benefit from Phillip Rivers' excellent pocket presence and quick release.

The Chargers are banged up at RB, and I don't really know who's going to be starting there. Both Ryan Mathews and Donald Brown are out, so this kid Brandon Oliver has been racking up 100-yard performances both weeks. They've also got Ronnie Brown, and believe it or not, Shaun Draughn is still in the league.

This is the year the Chargers feature a defense every bit as good as their offense. Their DL is monstrous, with Kendall Reyes and Corey Liuget bookending an overachieving Sean Lissemore in the middle.

I like their ILBs more than their OLBs -- Manti Te'o and Donald Butler cover well and hit the line of scrimmage hard. It's a good thing they get a pocket push from Reyes and Liuget, because they have no edge rushers other than Dwight Freeney, who has actually played well despite being on social security.

The CBs are where San Diego is really hurting people. Brandon Flowers, Shareece Wright, and Jason Verrett is a small lineup, but they play hard, cover well, and will erase every WR not named Bowe from Alex's sight.

I have no opinion on Marcus Gilchrist but Eric Weddle is an opportunistic mother****er with a nose for the ball.

You can't predict division matchups usually. Well, unless they involve Peyton Manning.

We will be missing 6-8 starters.

There's no reason why you shouldn't win, except Rivers.
Were also missing a shitload of starters.

Chargers will still be far superior at CB compared to us.

Wright should be back and Marshall is a solid 3rd option. Verrett has been balling out and is almost impossible to outrun and has great reaction time and remarkable quickness. Only way he can really be beat is if he's going up against a much larger WR who dominates at the high point, nothing like that exists in KC.

Chargers have a tremendous edge with their Receiving core vs our secondary. Gates is probably going to have a big day. Not too worried about Sean Smith but Rivers is going to pick on the slot and Marcus Cooper. Best bet is if Hali and Houston can get to him early and often.

They almost lost to the Raiders. It took a last minute drive and interception to keep them from losing to the fade. They barely won plus they lost a bunch of starters in the game. Chiefs should win this handily. 30-20 chiefs in a easy victory.

Definitely catching them at the right time.

Pretty much this.

We've got talent to defend, run and throw, and coaches that can scheme the **** out of things.

Or, we've got dudes that couldn't cover a ****ing cheerio with a tarp, and coaches that go full shortbus.

Berry never could cover Gates (or any other above average tight end) anyway.

The oline is terrible. Worst run blocking line in the NFL and the tackles can't handle speed AT ALL. If you can get some interior pressure from Powe Rivers will struggle majorly.

The D is mostly smoke, mirrors, and scheme. They can't just line up and beat you because they're not that good, but they play decent in their scheme. They're capable of giving up a lot of big plays though because they blitz a lot. Alex Suck will have a lot of opportunities for big plays.

The strength of the chargers is coaching. It's mostly really a geriatric overaged roster they have out there. Worst oline in the NFL, immobile noodle armed QB, slow receivers....no running back.... no pass rush, slow mlbs, - it could easily be a 4-5 win team but McCoy gives Rivers a lot of freedom to call the game and audible and Rivers is smart enough to find matchups he can take advantage of on 3rd down. When they do that and don't make mistakes it can make them (at times) look much better than they really are.

I'm a chargers fan but K.C. should take this one as long as you stop the run on 1st and 2nd down. A Chase Mcdaniels led chiefs team beat up on them in their own house last year (the refs literally gave them the game). The chargers can't handle your outside pass rushers at all (they haven't faced an outside rusher yet as effective as either Hali or Houston) and Rivers will eventually give you a sack fumble.

Even with all that you stated, the Chargers are better than the Chiefs in two key areas. QB and WR. If it's a scoring contest, which this could turn into, then the Chargers will win hands down.

We should start Chase Daniel. He seems to play well against them.

Also the chiefs are coming off a bye and doesn't Andy Reid have like an out of this world 90%+ win percentage coming off bye weeks? I could be wrong but i seem to recall hearing something about that last year.
