****2015 March Madness thread****

I'll probably find the time to keep daily updated brackets in the thread. In the mean time, who do you have winning it all? Kentucky a lock? Teams lose. So I don't think so. I truly believe undefeated hurts you going into The Dance.

Virginia's head coach Tony Bennett comes from Wazzu and I remember being happy the day he left even though I wondered why Virginia? Not rooting for them. I really don't know.

I expect Kansas to not make the sweet 16 potentially. Definitely not a championship contender (which would make it all the sweeter should they defy the odds).

ah shit it was pretty much a pick'em

still have a feeling the public more or less went with Duke ... because Duke

so I don't see a narrative with that one, either

I think maybe the officials are just shitty and Duke benefited from their shittiness tonight

what does that have to do with tonight's game?

I bet 9.3% was the 2nd highest %, by the way ... behind whatever Kentucky had (probably 50%+)

No laughing that you are limiting the tourney to 16 teams as absolute fact.

It was played HORRIBLY.

Look, they were down 3. They were 10 seconds removed from being down 8. Duke had no timeouts. They played 15 seconds off the shot clock. At that point, you get a stop. You go all out, get a stop, call a timeout. Then find a way to get Kaminsky a 3 and you have about 13 seconds to do so ... and if you get that game into OT you have ALL of the momentum.

That was the right move, regardless of what your statistics say. I have a hard time believing statistics are on your side with a 90% FT shooter, though.

Do statistics tell me to foul JJ Redick in a 1 possession game where you have 15 seconds over the shot clock if you get a stop?
http://www.caam.rice.edu/~fhk2/basketballendgame.pdf

You can believe what you want, but the right move is to foul there and extend the game. It was a problem of execution in the end, not strategy.

but I highly doubt the officials purposely threw the game for Duke. How are the benefiting?
Don't think anybody is saying they threw the game for Duke, but that program does routinely get a disproportionate amount of calls due to its stature in the game and its history of success. Today was just a pretty obvious example of that.

Same thing happens to a lesser extent with Kansas in the B12 (or to extend it to football, why the Patriots/Broncos get a ton more calls than they probably should with Brady/Manning). It's part of the human element of sports.

If they want all the tournament money for themselves rather than having it go to the NCAA and get split around, I don't see why they wouldn't want to create their own tournament.
