I know it's a Royals thread but what do you guys think about Yoan Moncada? Is he worth risking a high draft pick for fantasy?

Probably need to see what we can get for colon that doesn't cost a spot on the 40.

If it were up to me, I'd still start him at Omaha because he's got options and I want to see him hit well at AAA for a month or two. He has a lot to prove at the ML level after last year and I don't trust a month of Arizona stats. But the Royals have always pushed him and I think they'll do it again to start the season. |

Never got to pay much attention to the off season or ST gang, how we going to look this year.
Who comes out of ST?

Any chance Mondesi would solve our lead off issue as we go? I know they likely will want to keep the pressure off early.

I have never seen much film on him during his time in the minors, but from what I can see, he isn't much of a BB guy. Maybe it's a possibility that when his bat starts to improve (spring has been a positive sign), the plate discipline comes eventually as well (though it is worth noting, right now he is hitting .372/.386/.628 in ST, with only 1 BB in 44 PA's). Seems like since RAM was 17, he'd have a hot streak, then get called up to the next level. Last year he gets suspended, comes back and within two weeks of competition he goes from A-ball to AAA. Then just over two weeks after that he's in the majors. That is why I stress time and time again to people to have patience with this one. Yeah, his bat was discouraging last year, looking at data alone on this guy just won't tell you the entire story. Let this kid settle in and his bat progress and I think he's going to be special. |

Cuthbert is out of options, along with Colon. I think Mondesi is forcing the Royals FO's hand with Colon. I like the guy but we have to be real on a few things.
Cuthbert isn't going anywhere unless he is traded. Cuthbert seems to have a lot of potential at the plate from what we saw last year from a guy of his age. The problem is that, from what I can see, there is no role for Cuthbert this year that can give him regular AB's. He can't go to Omaha unless he passes through waivers, Moose is back so he's not going to be at third more than maybe once a week until Moose gets back into the swing of things, his defense doesn't appear to be good enough to get everyday reps at second. IMO, if he was seriously being auditioned for the starting 2B role, he would've gotten more than 6 games out there so far. Whit got 15 games out there, Mondesi got 13, and Colon got 11. If I was serious about Cuthbert playing second this year, i'd want him out there much more than that. Additionally, I can understand the mindset that we want Cuthbert around for the circumstance that Moose is gone next season. I understand that logic, but if I were GMDM I would want my future third baseman getting semi-regular reps at the plate throughout the year for the sake of his progression. I bet the Royals will be digging anywhere they can to get Cuthbert playing time this season. At the end of the day there are 4 players going after 3 spots between 2B and then two bench spots. Colon is at the bottom of the pecking order right now between himself, Whit, Mondesi, and Cuthbert and we know what he is by now. Colon doesn't have the versatility Whit has, he doesn't have the bat Cuthbert has, and now it looks like Mondesi's raw potential is beginning to come through. It's possible Mondesi starts the year in Omaha. But once Mondesi hits the big leagues, whether it's now or in May/June, Colon is outie-5000. Though, I would bet he could make his way through waivers. |

I did always say that it was nice for Esky to get a gold glove while he could in 2015, since Lindor was about to make his way into the picture.
Though, I failed to think about when Mondesi moves over to SS in 2018. He's going to be Lindor's biggest challenger for the GG for the distant future. Made this play look eaaaasy today. Also, he stole three bases and had a hit in 2 AB's. Whit went 1-5, but did have this RBI double: Orlando had an impressive day, 1-3 with a homer to dead center, a walk, and a hell of a catch out in center: An interesting turn of events is that Cuthbert, who got the start at 2B today, was HBP and then had to leave the game early. Allowing Mondesi in early to have the big game. Looked like it hit him in the lower spine:
According to Jeffrey Flanagan, he only has a bruise. One week alert, people. Last edited by C3HIEF3S; 03-27-2017 at 12:31 AM.. |

Worth noting: Whit has 2 option years remaining, while Colon is out of options. If they were deadset on keeping Colon, you could see Whit go down. If they like Whit's versatility in the field, Colon will probably be waived. Last edited by C3HIEF3S; 03-27-2017 at 09:26 AM.. |
