I just looked up the game in Ames. KU sent them to the line only three times in the last four minutes, where they went 5-6:

Everybody does it in the NBA too. And that's a league where players actually hit their FTs at a much higher rate. Should be obvious as to the reason why.

Sure looks like Lucious missed a FT there with 11 seconds left that led to KU being able to tie with a 2 PT shot (or as it turned out, 2 foul shots from EJ).

Didn't KU foul to extend MU in AFH their last year?

They neither extended the game by fouling repeatedly, nor did ISU miss their FT. 5-6 is not missing. Fouling down 4 is also substantially different from fouling down 1. Your comparison doesn't work, it's not even close.

That's exactly what extending the game is...creating more possessions. And yes, they did. Lucious missed one.

They would've had to hit 3s even if they applied your strategy. So that makes no sense.

They ended up jacking 3s using your strategy.

True. Anytime you get down 4 in the final minute you are in serious trouble and likely need to hit a couple 3s. Kentucky lost that game by going 13-24 from FT

You can't see why running out of time is a bad strategy?

They did. That isn't the argument. The argument is that extending the game is a better strategy than hoping they'll throw you the ball.
