I wish the ref gave Conor a standing 10 count let him recompose so he could have got knocked the **** out and not a TKO bullshit.

Give fans what they paid for.

Glad I didn't pay for it I saw just enough highlights at work and got paid to watch it

All good points. Perhaps the next MMA guy can stand around and play the "boxing" strategy game for 7-8 rounds, maybe 10. That'll be exciting...

I'm probably as old as you, and I watch plenty of boxing through the years too, but then MMA came around and proved to be leaps and bounds more exciting and interesting than boxing. From longer rounds, to fewer rounds, to lighter gloves, to the wrestling component, to the martial arts component, it's just more exciting in the "fight" space.

So Ali fights were great, I enjoyed them, but MMA is more of a fight.

I remember when they didn't have weight class in UFC and a little guy could beat a big guy it was some crazy shit. Like the sumo wrestler agaisnt a ninja cop and the ninja cop kicked him out of the Octagon iirc. I hope I'm telling it right but I know they had miss match fights but those were really hard good fights.

I don't get that. I'm a huge McGregor mark and MMA fan. I haven't REALLY followed boxing for a while, but I used to be a huge boxing fan. I though the new girl was hotter, you know? There's only so much time to give a shit about so many sports.

I saw the fight 100% like you did. Not only that, but I knew that's what Floyd would do. I didn't think this fight would go the distance. I said if Floyd pressured him and just ate his punches, Conor would wilt. It wears on his stamina and ****s up his technique. He's not a retreat counter puncher like Floyd is. Gassing a guy (who has a questionable gas tank) is an obvious precursor for Floyd. He's going to start a strategy like that when the punches are slower and weaker. It was a clinic.

TBH I'm surprised the ref was as lenient as he was. Conor was 'warned' more than a half dozen times about his illegal punches, and he landed at least two low blows (one of them solid to the nuts, and it was the only time Floyd seemed hurt in the fight) that the ref missed. It's like "uhhh, Conor, that's illegal in MMA as well you know..."

One thing that this has made apparent to me is that a lot of the MMA fans (not all, but many) should probably just be watching WorldStar, because that seems to be their idea of a good fight.

Are you saying boxing is a better "fight" than an MMA fight?

I'm saying that boxing is a sport with rules, not a street fight. MMA also has rules, but many in here seem to want a fight where the rules (low blows, rabbit punches) don't apply. If that's what you want, watch a street fight.

Seems like the world sees that now.

Not that watching two brawlers beat each other to a pulp can't be entertaining, but boxing is still on another level.

MMA is for people who think they are too cool for wrestling and douchebags in Affliction shirts.

I think there is a significant portion of the MMA fanbase that appreciates the skill behind the sport, but a sizable portion of that fanbase (and I'd argue, a large majority) seems to be transplanted wrestling fans from the Attitude Era that loved it for the blood and garbage matches, and MMA offers the closest analogue to that violence without the artifice of booked matches.

I'd have to argue otherwise on the first part. I think there's a group that actually enjoys the technical side, but that group is much smaller. A large majority says hurr this guy gon get ****d up lmbo

Ken Shamrock did a lot for the sport by being in the WWF during that era.

I grew up watching boxing in the 70sand 80s when it was exciting. The sweet science has been on the decline ever since and is being replaced by the MMA. Some boxing purists don't want to hear that but it's fact. I'd love to see boxing get fun again but until it does it will continue to languish.

That was the UFC's intention.

It was ruleless before Mccain put the clamps down on the org.

When boxing was popular is it your opinion that all fans were connoisseurs of the sport and none just wanted to see two guys beat the hell out of each other?
